The Sinking City Remastered in Unreal Engine 5 Launches Today
Ukrainian developer Frogwares has launched a surprise remastered version of The Sinking City, rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5 and available today on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Owners of the original version receive the Remastered edition completely free, while new players can grab it at a substantial discount: $24.99 on consoles and $19.99 on PC for a limited time.
This refreshed edition comes with a wide array of visual and gameplay enhancements designed to elevate the Lovecraftian detective experience. Rebuilt entirely in Unreal Engine 5, The Sinking City Remastered brings modernized visuals, new tech, and updated mechanics to a cult classic plagued by rights disputes since its original 2019 release.
A Full Visual Overhaul & Gameplay Updates
Frogwares has outlined all the improvements brought by the remaster:
Complete relighting in Unreal Engine 5, overhauling the game’s atmosphere and immersion.
Enhanced locations with increased levels of detail and density.
Upgraded 4K textures and reflections for sharper fidelity.
Support for upscaling technologies including NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, and Epic’s TSR.
Photo Mode, allowing players to capture the eerie world in cinematic shots.
Improved accessibility features and various gameplay adjustments, though specific patch notes are expected soon.
Franchise Ambitions and a Sequel Confirmed
In a statement accompanying the surprise drop, Frogwares Publishing Director Sergiy Oganesyan expressed gratitude toward the fans who stuck with them during the game’s troubled post-launch journey—most notably, the legal battle with the game's former distributor that resulted in its temporary delisting. With those issues behind them, the studio is eyeing an expansive future for the IP.
“We plan to do big things with The Sinking City IP, starting with the sequel and then beyond,” said Oganesyan. “So, after our rather well-known struggles with the original, it feels amazing to have this positive moment be part of the game’s twisted history and for us to be the ones to fully decide it. Making it free to all our existing fans is our way of giving back to them for having supported us all this time through thick and thin.”
With a remaster now available and a sequel on the horizon, The Sinking City appears ready to rise again—on the back of community support, cutting-edge tech, and renewed creative control.
