The Elder Scrolls Online: Battle for the Writhing Wall, the Game’s First One-Time World-Changing Event, Is Now Live on All Platforms
ZeniMax Online Studios has officially launched The Elder Scrolls Online: Battle for the Writhing Wall, marking the MMORPG’s first-ever one-time, world-changing event, and it’s now live on all platforms simultaneously, a rare move for ESO, as content traditionally arrives first on PC and Mac before coming to consoles.
The Battle for the Writhing Wall serves as a major turning point in the ongoing Seasons of the Worm Cult storyline. Until now, players have been confined to Western Solstice, separated from new lands by a magical barrier made of souls, conjured by the sinister necromancer faction. This event invites the entire ESO community to unite and participate in a massive, multi-stage assault to tear down the barrier, with the results permanently affecting the game world.
The event unfolds in three distinct phases, each shaping the story’s progression and server state independently.
Players must rally behind the Stirk Fellowship, a coalition of the three Alliances and the Fighters and Mages Guilds, to gather critical resources and fortify siege camps for the battle ahead. Both sides clash over control points across Tamriel, and planar incursions erupt in various regions.
All ESO players can contribute to global progress, but only those with the 2025 Content Pass may take on quests within Solstice itself. During this stage, the Worm Cult seizes delves and public dungeons across Tamriel, turning them into invasion zones filled with tougher enemies. Players can tackle these sites through daily quests from NPC Orinde Glenuvon.
The second stage intensifies as the Fellowship launches its first assault on the Writhing Wall. Players must defend siege encampments from increasingly aggressive cult counterattacks. Siege incursions become more frequent and challenging, while Daedra Ghishzor, a formidable Maldrith world boss, emerges on Solstice to test the strength of even the most coordinated adventurers.
Once the Writhing Wall weakens, Phase 3 begins, the decisive strike. Players will storm the Writhing Fortress, a massive new public instance available for one week from the first completion on each server. This phase determines the lasting impact on Tamriel’s world state. Again, participation in this final siege requires the 2025 Content Pass.
Each server’s progress varies depending on community participation, mirroring World of Warcraft’s legendary Opening of Ahn’Qiraj event. As of now, Xbox Europe and PlayStation Europe servers are slightly ahead in their progression. Fans can track each server’s advancement in real-time through the official event tracker
This groundbreaking event highlights The Elder Scrolls Online’s evolution into a living, reactive world — one shaped directly by its community’s actions.
