Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 Ending Will Satisfy Old-Time Fans and Newcomers Alike, Says Director
At last week’s Brasil Game Show 2025, Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 director Naoki Hamaguchi discussed the highly anticipated conclusion to the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy and offered new insights into the development philosophy behind splitting the original story into three separate titles.
Speaking on stage, Hamaguchi emphasized that the decision to divide the project into three installments stemmed from a desire to respect both the scope of the original game and the expectations of longtime fans:
“Final Fantasy VII is a game with a truly huge fanbase. We could have cut some parts and turned it into one game, but the fans of the original would never have forgiven us. If we want to tell this story using new technology, it's not possible to do so in a single title. That's why we made the difficult decision to split it into three parts.”
When asked about the tone and direction of the trilogy’s final chapter, Hamaguchi confidently stated that the ending will be satisfying to both veteran fans and newcomers who discovered Final Fantasy VII through the Remake series:
“Of course, I already have a clear idea of the ending for Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3. I think this conclusion will appeal to both those who loved the original and those who became fans of FF7 thanks to the Remake series. I'm confident this new game will be loved by everyone.”
Almost a year ago, Hamaguchi had teased that Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 would include a unique twist to differentiate it from the first two entries and give players a fresh narrative experience. While no details have been revealed yet, fans remain eager to see how Square Enix plans to balance nostalgia with innovation in the trilogy’s finale.
Meanwhile, series creative lead Tetsuya Nomura recently confirmed that both Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 and Kingdom Hearts IV remain on schedule, reassuring fans that development is progressing smoothly.
Considering the four-year gap between Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020) and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (2024), many expect a two-to-three-year wait before the trilogy’s epic conclusion finally releases. In the meantime, Square Enix is preparing to expand the audience for the series by launching the previous chapters on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, starting with the first title.
Do you think Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 can deliver an ending worthy of the original? What kind of twist do you expect Hamaguchi and Nomura to introduce?
