The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Launches Today with Unreal Engine 5 Visuals and Deluxe Edition Content
Following a crescendo of rumors and leaks, Bethesda has officially and unexpectedly launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered—and it’s available now on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass. Todd Howard led the reveal by reminiscing about Oblivion’s groundbreaking impact back in 2006, before handing the spotlight to developers who showcased the numerous upgrades in this revitalized version.
Built using Unreal Engine 5, the remaster dramatically overhauls the game’s visuals, giving the classic RPG a fresh and visually arresting presentation. However, in a nod to its roots, the underlying game logic still runs on the Gamebryo engine, maintaining core gameplay behavior while integrating substantial quality-of-life improvements.
Improvements in Oblivion Remastered:
HUD, menu, and map redesigns for modern usability
Streamlined UI for gameplay systems like Persuasion, Clairvoyance, and inventory management
Mechanic tweaks to leveling, encumbrance, and non-combat perks
Enhanced enemy scaling and combat balancing
Accessibility features added, improving playability across all platforms
Additional autosave points and improved controller support
Revamped camera perspectives in both first- and third-person modes
Combat feedback enhancements for better immersion
Bethesda also confirmed that Oblivion Remastered includes full mod support, continuing the series' tradition of community-driven content longevity.
