The Division 2: Battle for Brooklyn Launches May 27

Ubisoft Massive has officially confirmed that The Division 2: Battle for Brooklyn, the next major DLC for the tactical action-RPG, will launch on May 27, 2025 for PC and consoles, priced at $14.99 USD. The expansion also comes bundled with both the Gold Edition and Ultimate Edition of The Division 2, giving new and returning players multiple access points to jump straight into the next chapter of the franchise.

The Gold and Ultimate Editions include the base game, the Warlords of New York expansion, 50 additional stash slots, and a Level 40 boost, which allows players to immediately begin the Battle for Brooklyn campaign without replaying earlier content. Additionally, the Ultimate Edition grants 1,000 Premium Credits and the Year 1 Pass, unlocking early access to endgame specializations, exclusive side missions, and more rewards.

A Return to Brooklyn, But Not As You Remember It

The expansion marks a return to the setting of the original The Division, though Ubisoft Massive has reimagined Brooklyn with new zones, landmarks, and narrative threads. According to the developers, this updated version of Brooklyn is more than a nostalgic revisit—it’s a ground-up rebuild that offers fresh exploration, interaction, and environmental storytelling. Battle for Brooklyn presents a more focused narrative structure, moving away from mission bloat and instead emphasizing tailored campaign storytelling.

The campaign duration is estimated to be around 6 to 10 hours on the first playthrough, depending on playstyle. The Cleaners faction also returns with a dangerous new weapon: the “Purple Flame”, a corrosive attack that diminishes the player's maximum armor. This adds a new layer of challenge and urgency to encounters, especially in close-quarters combat.

Smart Cover Returns With PvP & PvE Upgrades

A standout feature making its return is the Smart Cover skill, now redesigned for both PvE and PvP contexts. The skill enhances both offensive and defensive buffs for allies using cover and grants increased boss resistance across the team. Players can choose between two specialized variants:

  • Precision Smart Cover, which amplifies accuracy and critical bonuses

  • Fortified Smart Cover, which boosts armor and resistance

PvP balance has been carefully considered, with separate tuning to ensure fairness and strategic viability in multiplayer encounters.

Looking Ahead: Year 7 Plans Unveiled

In tandem with the DLC announcement, Ubisoft Massive has also offered a glimpse into the Year 7 roadmap. The development team plans to enhance the onboarding process for new players, inject greater depth into endgame progression, and make seasonal content a cornerstone of the live-service model moving forward. A dynamic open-world wrapper system is also on the horizon, which will react to player actions and influence how exotic blueprints are unlocked—ushering in a more reactive and personalized game environment.
