Swedish Retailer Halts ROG RTX 5090 Matrix Sales as ASUS Reportedly Identifies a Quality Issue

The highly anticipated and ultra premium ASUS ROG RTX 5090 Matrix edition has encountered an unexpected setback before making its full retail debut. Despite being positioned as one of ASUS’s most exclusive and expensive RTX 5090 models, the card has reportedly been pulled from sale by at least one Swedish retailer due to a quality related issue flagged by ASUS itself. With only 1,000 units scheduled for global distribution, availability was already extremely limited, but this development suggests that even early buyers may face delays.

The situation first surfaced through community discussions on the official ROG forums where a user noted that although the GPU was not listed as in stock, he managed to place an order through a French retailer. However, that retailer reportedly has yet to receive any physical inventory. Another user, “FalkorArtax,” shared a similar experience stating that his retailer also lacked supply and disclosed a more concerning explanation. According to information received from the vendor, ASUS has halted shipments after confirming that the ROG RTX 5090 Matrix has a “quality” issue. As a result, the current batch has been discontinued and a revised version is being prepared.

The exact nature of the problem remains undisclosed. Given the card’s premium positioning, double length price tag, and aggressively tuned power configuration, potential issues tied to performance or thermals cannot be ruled out. The Matrix edition distinguishes itself from standard RTX 5090 models with an extreme 800W power limit which is 200W higher than typical variants. ASUS markets this as enabling up to a 10 percent performance uplift which demands exceptionally robust cooling and engineering. Any flaw in these areas would be unacceptable for a four thousand dollar flagship GPU.

As of now, ASUS has not issued an official statement addressing the problem nor provided a timeline for the revised units to reach retailers. This lack of clarity may affect early adopters and collectors who were eager to secure the rare Matrix edition. In the meantime, customers seeking a high end RTX 5090 experience may want to explore standard variants which start around two thousand dollars and remain widely available.

The situation was first highlighted by Videocardz in their report which suggests that retailers have paused fulfillment until ASUS completes its internal review and releases updated inventory. As this story develops, the industry will be watching closely to see how ASUS addresses the issue on a product positioned as its most elite GeForce offering.

What do you think ASUS needs to address in the revised Matrix edition? Would you still consider paying a premium for a limited run GPU with such exclusivity?
