Sucker Punch Creative Director Expresses Desire to Return to Infamous Series
Sucker Punch Productions, one of the most enduring teams within the PlayStation Studios family, has been responsible for multiple landmark franchises throughout the years. Among them is Infamous, a standout series from the PlayStation 3 era that extended briefly into the early PlayStation 4 generation before going dormant. Despite its early success and dedicated fanbase, Infamous has not seen a new installment since the release of its mainline PS4 entry and a smaller DLC follow-up.
Following Infamous, the studio shifted focus to Ghost of Tsushima, an open-world samurai action game that achieved both critical and commercial acclaim. The success of Ghost of Tsushima cemented Sucker Punch's reputation for producing narrative-rich, technically polished titles. However, many long-time fans of Infamous continue to hope the studio will revisit the franchise.
In a recent interview with Game Informer, Sucker Punch creative directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell discussed their work on the upcoming Ghost of Yotei, the follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima. When asked whether he would consider returning to the Infamous franchise, Fox responded candidly: "I would love to work on more Infamous. I would love to see a trilogy rerelease, but Sucker Punch is a one game at a time shop, and right now we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yotei."
Throughout its history, Sucker Punch has adhered to a focused development model, typically committing to a single IP at a time. The studio began with Sly Cooper on the PlayStation 2, delivering three entries before handing off the franchise. Then came Infamous, which spanned two major consoles and multiple titles before giving way to Ghost of Tsushima. The studio's development approach, prioritizing depth and quality over volume, has rarely included revisiting past series once a new IP takes center stage.
Although the prospect of an Infamous revival remains uncertain, Fox’s comment offers a glimmer of hope. The potential for a trilogy remaster or even a fourth mainline installment is not entirely off the table, particularly if fan demand continues and the timing becomes right for the team. Until then, Sucker Punch’s focus remains firmly on delivering Ghost of Yotei, set for release later this year.
