Stranger Than Heaven Unleashes Intense Five Eras Trailer as RGG Studio Teases Major Reveal for May 6

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has delivered one of the most intriguing showcases yet for Stranger Than Heaven, with a brand new trailer revealed during the latest Xbox Partner Preview that confirms the game will span 5 eras and 5 Japanese cities. According to Xbox News, the eras shown in the new footage are 1915, 1929, 1943, 1951, and 1965, immediately positioning the project as one of the studio’s most ambitious productions to date.

That scale is exactly what RGG Studio wants players to notice. Speaking to Xbox Wire, Representative and Executive Producer Masayoshi Yokoyama said the team cannot yet say much beyond what was shown, but stressed that building a game across 5 cities and 5 eras is “a massive undertaking.” He added that the studio is putting major care into recreating times and places that are rarely explored in games, which gives Stranger Than Heaven a very different identity from the modern criminal drama style many players associate with the team behind Like a Dragon.

The new Five Eras trailer also offered a much stronger look at combat, and that side of the game appears just as ambitious as its setting. The footage showed intense hand to hand fighting, weapons, environmental interactions, and large scale confrontations that look faster, rougher, and more explosive than what many fans may have expected. Yokoyama told Xbox Wire that this represents “an all new level of combat design” for the studio, while also making it clear that what has been shown so far is only the beginning.

Beyond combat, the trailer hints at a much broader experience. Xbox Wire notes glimpses of tram travel, possible romance elements, richly presented food, and a powerful jazz driven soundtrack, all of which reinforce the idea that Stranger Than Heaven is trying to deliver a layered period experience rather than just another action title. Yokoyama also teased an “all star cast,” suggesting the game may feature some notable faces once the studio is ready to fully introduce its characters.

The biggest immediate takeaway, however, is that fans will not have to wait long for more. Xbox has confirmed that Xbox Presents: A Special Look at Stranger Than Heaven will air on May 6 at 4:00 PM PDT, which is May 7 at 7:00 AM in Taiwan time. The broadcast is set to provide a deeper dive into the features teased in the trailer, along with new material that has not yet been shown publicly.

There is still no release date or even a broader launch window attached to the game yet. What Xbox has confirmed is that Stranger Than Heaven is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Xbox Cloud, and that it will support Xbox Play Anywhere and be available through Game Pass.

At this point, Stranger Than Heaven is shaping up to be far more than just RGG Studio’s next project. With its multi era structure, multiple cities, intensified combat, and unusual historical framing, it already looks like one of the studio’s boldest departures in years. If the May 6 showcase can back up the scale implied by this trailer, this could quickly become one of the most talked about action games on Xbox’s upcoming slate.

What stood out to you most from the new trailer, the time spanning structure, the brutal combat, or the promise of seeing 5 different cities across 5 different eras?
