STAR WARS Zero Company Revealed as Turn-Based Tactics Game Set During the Clone Wars, Launching in 2026
At the Star Wars Celebration Japan event, developer Bit Reactor, alongside Respawn Entertainment and Lucasfilm Games, officially unveiled STAR WARS Zero Company, a new turn-based tactical strategy game set during the iconic Clone Wars era. Initially teased in early 2022, Zero Company blends the rich Star Wars universe with strategic gameplay inspired by XCOM, not surprising given Bit Reactor was founded by former XCOM veterans, including Creative Director Greg Foerstch.
In a statement accompanying the reveal, Foerstch described the team's vision:
"Our vision for STAR WARS Zero Company is grounded in gameplay design pillars that weave in the immersive Star Wars galaxy with engaging turn-based tactics gameplay. It’s our aim to deliver a game with an original Star Wars story from the Clone Wars era that has meaningful outcomes from player choices, and deep turn-based tactical combat with an approachable and cinematic presentation."
Douglas Reilly, General Manager and VP of Lucasfilm Games, highlighted their excitement about the collaboration:
"At Lucasfilm Games, we’re huge tactics fans and we have wanted to make a game like this for a long time. The best tactics games are all about meaningful choices, and we’re confident we have chosen the right squad in Bit Reactor to deliver a compelling and innovative title that is authentic to Star Wars."
Players will assume the role of Hawks, a former Republic officer tasked with commanding the elite and diverse Zero Company squad. This unconventional team, composed of hired specialists from across the galaxy, must unite to confront a growing threat capable of destabilizing the entire galaxy. The narrative promises a gritty and authentic Clone Wars story shaped by critical player decisions and strategic gameplay.
The campaign will take players on tactical missions and covert investigations spanning numerous worlds. Between these operations, players manage their strategic base, leveraging intelligence networks to stay ahead of their foes. Deep character customization is integral to the experience, allowing extensive personalization of Hawks’ appearance and combat class, as well as recruited operatives drawn from classic Star Wars archetypes including Clone Troopers, Astromechs, and Jedi. Squad bonds developed in battle unlock unique combat synergies and tactical advantages, reinforcing the importance of team composition and strategy.
STAR WARS Zero Company is scheduled for release in 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players can already add the game to their wishlist via its official Steam page.
