South of Midnight Reaches PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 31

Compulsion Games has officially confirmed that South of Midnight will launch on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 on March 31, 2026, bringing the former Xbox Series and PC exclusive to two major new platforms before the end of the month. The new release timing follows the earlier announcement during The Game Awards 2025, when the studio confirmed the game would expand to both platforms in Spring 2026.

The release date was revealed alongside a new trailer, which gives players another look at the game’s stylized Southern Gothic world, its creature design, and the supernatural journey at the center of Hazel’s story.

This new launch is also notable from a broader platform strategy perspective. After Avowed, South of Midnight becomes one of the next major Xbox Game Studios titles to continue Microsoft’s ongoing multiplatform push, and according to current reporting, it is the first previously Xbox Series console exclusive to move to other console platforms in 2026.

Originally released on Xbox Series X|S and PC on April 8, 2025, South of Midnight earned attention for its strong art direction, music, and narrative presentation. While criticism around its combat and platforming has remained part of the conversation, the game’s visual identity and storytelling have helped it stand out as one of Compulsion Games’ more distinctive releases in recent years.

For PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 players, this upcoming version opens the door to one of Xbox’s more artistically driven first party releases without needing to stay inside the Xbox hardware ecosystem. In a market where platform boundaries continue to shift, South of Midnight arriving on March 31 is another signal that Microsoft’s publishing strategy is continuing to evolve in a very visible way.

Do you think South of Midnight can find a bigger audience on PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 than it did during its original Xbox and PC launch?
