Rockstar Expands GTA+ With NBA 2K26 Limited Time Access on PS5 and Xbox Series

Rockstar Games has announced an unusual new expansion for GTA+, with NBA 2K26 joining the subscription’s console games library for a limited time beginning March 10. The official update, shared by Rockstar on X, confirms that GTA+ members on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will receive access to the full game through April 20, 2026. Rockstar’s latest GTA+ Newswire post also confirms that this offer includes 5,000 VC, 6 types of Skill Boosts for 5 games, and a guaranteed Diamond Player Pack, with an NBA 2K account required for the extra content.

This is a notable shift for GTA+ because the library has largely been associated with Rockstar led content, while NBA 2K26 comes from 2K under the wider Take Two umbrella. Rockstar’s parent company, Take Two Interactive, operates both Rockstar Games and 2K as publishing labels, which makes the crossover strategically logical even if it still feels unusual from a consumer perspective. In practical terms, this is one of the clearest examples yet of Take Two using its broader portfolio to add extra value to a Rockstar subscription product.

The time window is also very specific. GTA+ members on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can access NBA 2K26 from March 10 through April 20, and Rockstar says subscribers will also get a 20% discount if they want to purchase the game outright on the console platform tied to their membership. On the Grand Theft Auto Online side, March bonuses tied to the promotion include the Broker Prolaps Basketball Top and Shorts added to players’ wardrobes, reinforcing the basketball themed crossover inside GTA+.

From a business standpoint, this move is easy to read as a test case for broader cross promotion inside Take Two’s ecosystem. NBA 2K remains one of the company’s biggest annual franchises, while GTA+ gives Rockstar a live subscription channel with a built in console audience. Combining the 2 products for a limited window creates an additional engagement loop that could help retention, expose more GTA+ users to 2K’s monetization systems, and establish a framework for future cross franchise promotions.

The more interesting long term question is whether this remains a one off sports crossover or becomes part of a bigger strategy ahead of Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar has not said that more non Rockstar titles are coming to GTA+, but this promotion clearly shows the subscription can now be used as more than just a bonus layer for GTA Online. If this experiment performs well, Take Two may have found a smart way to turn GTA+ into a broader ecosystem tool rather than a service tied only to Rockstar’s own catalog. That could become especially important as the company prepares for its next major release cycle.

What do you think about this crossover, and would adding more Take Two games make GTA+ a much stronger subscription for console players?
