Resident Evil Requiem Will Be a ‘Complete Rollercoaster Ride’ Like Never Before in the Series, Says CAPCOM

Aside from Grand Theft Auto VI, which skipped Gamescom 2025, Resident Evil Requiem was the undisputed star of the show. CAPCOM’s upcoming ninth mainline entry in the legendary horror franchise not only drew long lines for its first public hands-on demo but also walked away with multiple Gamescom awards, cementing itself as one of the most anticipated releases of next year.

During Gamescom, CAPCOM revealed new details about Resident Evil Requiem. Speaking with Gamesradar, Game Director Koshi Nakanishi described the title as a complete rollercoaster ride, with bigger highs and lows across horror, tension, action, and release than ever before in the series.

“I think the two recent titles, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Village, are more on the action side of the series in terms of the mixture of elements that they have. Resident Evil Requiem is something different. If I had to compare it to past titles, it’s more along the lines of Resident Evil 7 or the Resident Evil 2 Remake,” Nakanishi explained.

The game promises a return to “old school” Resident Evil design with exploration, backtracking, and puzzle-solving, all layered on top of the classic pillars of survival horror: combat, resource management, and atmospheric storytelling. CAPCOM is taking the standard pacing curve of intense horror followed by moments of catharsis and exploration and amplifying it.

Nakanishi teased a new system that he couldn’t yet reveal in detail, but hinted that it will widen the contrast between horror and relief:

“If you think of the difference between the tension and the release being a certain size of wavelength, I want to make the distance between those aspects bigger than ever before in the series. It just becomes a complete roller coaster ride.”

Technical Advancements on PC

On PC, Resident Evil Requiem will mark a milestone for CAPCOM’s RE Engine. It will be the first title in the series to support path tracing, delivering unparalleled realism in lighting and shadows. It will also support NVIDIA DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation, ensuring smooth performance even with demanding visual fidelity.

Release Date

Resident Evil Requiem is scheduled to launch on February 27, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
