Resident Evil Requiem Producer Addresses Leon Rumors, First and Third Person Camera Options, and Demo Plans

Rumors surrounding the next entry in CAPCOM’s iconic survival horror franchise continue to build, but according to Resident Evil Requiem producer Masato Kumazawa, fans should remain cautious about what they see online. In a new interview with Stevivor, Kumazawa addressed circulating speculation that Leon S. Kennedy will serve as the second protagonist in the upcoming title.

Kumazawa noted that many of the so-called leaks are the product of player speculation and digital manipulation, especially in an era where AI generated images and footage can easily spread misinformation. “Considering that now is the time when AI can be used to make videos and photos, we do not know what is right or what is wrong. Players are free to believe what they would like to believe, but unless something is officially released from CAPCOM, we cannot give any confirmation,” he explained.

He also dismissed the viral image depicting Leon with an eye patch and claims of an alternate DLC costume as entirely fabricated. However, the producer did not explicitly deny whether Leon appears in the game at all, leaving the door open for interpretation and further fueling fan speculation.

Beyond the discussion of leaks, Kumazawa also addressed Resident Evil Requiem’s implementation of both first person and third person camera perspectives. This design decision evolved from significant player feedback following the release of the third person mode for Resident Evil Village. The ability to switch views not only gives players greater flexibility but also allows the development team to adjust the horror balance. According to Kumazawa, some fans found Resident Evil VII Biohazard “a little too scary” due to its first person only presentation. Including both perspectives aims to broaden accessibility without diluting the core tension of the experience.

Unfortunately for fans hoping to try the game before launch, Resident Evil Requiem will not receive a playable demo in the immediate future. “We actually have no plan for one at this stage. None at all. We just want to focus on finishing off the game,” Kumazawa said. With the title launching in February 2026, the door remains slightly open, but expectations should be tempered despite past entries receiving pre launch demos.

The prospect of Leon returning remains one of the most discussed possibilities among fans, but the idea of Grace serving as the sole protagonist is equally intriguing. Those who experienced the early build at Gamescom noted her vulnerability and the palpable sense of dread that defined the encounter. If this design philosophy permeates the full game, Requiem may deliver one of the series’ most tense and atmospheric entries to date.

With only a few months remaining until launch, Resident Evil Requiem continues to build anticipation as CAPCOM refines its vision for the next chapter in the storied survival horror franchise.
