Rematch Finally Adds Crossplay Nearly Three Months After Launch with Major Patch
Sloclap, the studio behind Sifu, has rolled out the third major update for its arcade football title Rematch. The September 5 update introduces one of the most highly anticipated features players have been waiting for since launch: full crossplay support across all platforms.
Patch #3 officially detailed here had already gone through beta testing on Steam starting August 29, but it is now live for all users. Crossplay support headlines the update, finally allowing players across PC and consoles to compete seamlessly, a feature that was initially promised but delayed just hours before the game’s release.
Alongside crossplay, Sloclap has delivered a number of gameplay adjustments based on community feedback. The maximum speed for locking onto volley targets while using Extra Effort has been reduced by 10 percent, and the power boost from aerial extra volley shots has been toned down, both intended to address issues with the current gameplay meta. The patch also adds tap direction controls for mouse and keyboard players, alongside a substantial round of bug fixes.
The lack of crossplay at launch caused disappointment among fans who expected the feature on day one, though Sloclap maintained it needed additional time to ensure stability. In the meantime, the game’s launch still proved to be a resounding success, hitting one million players within its first 24 hours and surpassing five million in its first month, thanks in part to its inclusion on Xbox Game Pass.
With crossplay now in place, Rematch is poised for another surge of growth as matchmaking becomes faster and more balanced across platforms. The challenge ahead for Sloclap will be in continuing to fine-tune the evolving meta and delivering further patches that keep gameplay fresh and competitive.
Do you think crossplay should be a must-have feature at launch for multiplayer games, or is it acceptable for developers to roll it out later if stability is a concern?
