Red Dead Redemption 2 enRAGE Mod Adds Nemesis Style Revenge and Dynamic Gang Wars

Red Dead Redemption 2 has received an ambitious new mod that introduces a Nemesis style system, allowing NPCs to remember Arthur Morgan's actions, develop personal grudges, and seek revenge. Developed by modder nicklovin99, the project, called enRAGE, expands Rockstar Games' open world with persistent character relationships, evolving gang hierarchies, territorial conflicts, and encounters influenced by player decisions. The mod entered early access on October 17, 2026, and is available through Nexus Mods.

The system transforms ordinary NPCs into persistent characters with individual names, personalities, occupations, families, and personal histories. Each character receives 1 of 7 personality types: Hothead, Proud, Cold, Coward, Greedy, Loyal, or Drifter. These characteristics influence how NPCs respond to threats, whether they retreat from confrontations, and how likely they are to forgive previous encounters.

Player actions directly influence these relationships. Robbing, insulting, attacking, or killing an NPC's friends increases hostility, potentially transforming an ordinary encounter into a personal rivalry. Grudges escalate through 3 stages: Resentful, Vengeful, and Murderous, with enemies becoming increasingly dangerous as their hostility grows. Some NPCs can survive gunfights and return with permanent injuries, while killing someone may provoke retaliation from surviving relatives or friends. Wearing a mask can prevent identification, adding another tactical consideration to criminal activities.

Beyond individual rivalries, enRAGE introduces simulated conflicts between factions including the O'Driscoll Boys, Lemoyne Raiders, Murfree Brood, and Bronte Family. Each organization maintains resources, territory, officers, and leadership structures. Gang members can receive promotions, rival factions may initiate territorial wars, and losing valuable personnel or supplies can weaken an organization's position. Players can influence these conflicts by attacking camps, stealing resources, eliminating officers, or interrogating captured enemies for information.

The mod also tracks major events through an in game chronicle and regional newspapers, documenting conflicts, deaths, and changes in local reputation. Additional systems include character funerals, daily routines, and a detailed bullet impact log. The developer's official gameplay trailer demonstrates how these mechanics interact to make encounters less predictable.

Version 0.9.5 introduces support for the game's epilogue, allowing the simulated world to advance from 1899 to 1907. Existing characters may have died, moved away, changed occupations, or advanced through gang hierarchies, while John Marston begins with his own relationships rather than inheriting Arthur's personal grudges.

Interestingly, nicklovin99 confirms that Claude Code assisted in developing the mod's scripts and systems. However, enRAGE is not presented as a generative AI conversation system. Its behavior relies on gameplay rules, character attributes, and persistent world simulation rather than dynamically generated dialogue from a language model.

The mod requires Script Hook RDR2 and ScriptHookRDR2DotNet V2 version 2.2.0 or newer. It remains an experimental release with potential compatibility issues and bugs, while its systems are designed to avoid interfering with story missions. The developer is continuing to refine stability, encounters, and integration with other modifications.

enRAGE could become one of the more interesting gameplay modifications for Red Dead Redemption 2 because it expands the consequences of player actions rather than simply adding new missions or visual improvements.

Rockstar's original game already features detailed NPC routines and environmental interactions, but enRAGE attempts to make those encounters persistent. A minor confrontation can eventually develop into a dangerous rivalry, while eliminating a gang leader can change the balance of power across the map.

The dynamic faction system is particularly promising, introducing additional reasons to explore the world after completing the main story. However, maintaining consistent NPC behavior across interconnected systems presents significant technical challenges, making stability and compatibility important areas for further development.

If the developer continues refining these mechanics, enRAGE could provide a compelling reason for players to return to the American frontier.

Would you replay Red Dead Redemption 2 with NPCs that remember your actions and seek revenge, or do you prefer Rockstar's original scripted encounters?
