Co-op Roguelite Raiders of Blackveil From Former IO Interactive Developers Launches in Early Access on PC

Raiders of Blackveil, a new cooperative roguelite action RPG from Wombo Games, has officially launched in early access on PC. The studio, founded by IO Interactive co founder Janos Flösser, announced both its formation and debut project earlier this year, and after confirming an early access window last month, the Copenhagen based team has now delivered its first playable release to the public.

Wombo Games is made up of veteran developers previously associated with IO Interactive and Square Enix, with collective experience spanning major franchises such as Hitman, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Just Cause. Raiders of Blackveil marks a clear creative departure from those narrative driven and cinematic titles, instead embracing a systems heavy cooperative structure that leans into replayability, experimentation, and player driven progression. It is precisely this shift that makes the project noteworthy, as it showcases seasoned talent stepping outside familiar territory to explore a more mechanically focused design philosophy.

At its core, Raiders of Blackveil is a MOBA inspired action RPG built around roguelite progression. Players select a champion and work toward crafting optimal builds across eight distinct classes, supported by more than 300 perks and a wide variety of loot drops. Each run emphasizes adaptability and synergy, encouraging players to refine their strategies both individually and as a team. The game’s cooperative structure is designed to reward coordination while still allowing for flexible playstyles depending on class combinations and perk choices.

Gameplay footage released alongside the early access launch highlights fast paced combat, dense enemy encounters, and a visual style that blends dark fantasy elements with bold readability. Players can view the launch footage through the official Raiders of Blackveil gameplay trailer, which provides a clear look at the game’s core loop and cooperative dynamics.

Commenting on the early access milestone, executive producer Benjamin Flösser emphasized the importance of community driven development. He explained that the journey to early access was focused on refining the core experience and ensuring that the gameplay foundation felt solid. With that base now in place, Wombo Games sees early access as the phase where Raiders of Blackveil can truly evolve, with player feedback playing a central role in shaping future content and systems.

While the studio has not disclosed how long the title will remain in early access, it has confirmed that a full version 1.0 release is planned for sometime in 2026. This positions the coming year as a critical period for feature expansion, balance tuning, and long term retention as Wombo Games builds its first IP alongside an actively engaged player base.

Raiders of Blackveil enters early access at a time when cooperative roguelites continue to gain traction, and its blend of MOBA inspired structure with class driven progression gives it a distinct angle within an increasingly competitive space. Whether it can convert its strong pedigree into long term success will depend largely on how effectively the team responds to community feedback in the months ahead.

Have you tried Raiders of Blackveil yet, and do you think its MOBA inspired roguelite design sets it apart from other co op action RPGs currently in early access?
