Quantic Dream Reveals Spellcasters Chronicles, a Free-to-Play 3v3 Action-Strategy Multiplayer Game

Just days after announcing its move into competitive multiplayer gaming, Quantic Dream has officially unveiled its next project: Spellcasters Chronicles, a free-to-play 3v3 action-strategy game that blends third-person combat with tactical deck-building mechanics. Developed across the studio’s Paris and Montreal offices, Spellcasters Chronicles marks a dramatic shift for the studio best known for story-driven experiences such as Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain, and Beyond: Two Souls.

In Spellcasters Chronicles, players take on the role of “Spellcasters” powerful mages who battle in fast-paced 25-minute matches set within vertical arenas. Teams of three compete to capture altars, claim territory, and destroy opposing “Lifestones” to achieve victory.

Each Spellcaster belongs to a unique archetype, with distinctive spells and abilities that define their combat style. Beyond individual skill sets, players will engage in deck-building, selecting different spells and creatures to summon during battle, allowing for deep strategic customization and varied playstyles.

The game’s combination of real-time action, creature summoning, and territory control aims to create a fresh take on multiplayer combat, one that merges Quantic Dream’s cinematic vision with a focus on team-based strategy and replayability.

“We are honored and excited to introduce Spellcasters Chronicles to players today, developed in our Paris and Montreal studios,” said David Cage, co-founder and president of Quantic Dream.
“Stepping into a new genre with a fresh artistic approach has been both a challenge and a source of growth, allowing us to evolve as a team. We now look forward to shaping the game further with players’ feedback and perfecting this journey together.”

Cage added that this new project “reflects the creative spirit and technical ambitions guiding Quantic Dream for nearly three decades,” highlighting that the studio aims to blend action and strategy with community-driven storytelling.

“It has been an exploration of bold ideas, a chance to expand into social and multiplayer experiences, and an adventure shared by a new talented team of experts within our studios in Paris and Montreal who brought this original universe to life.”

Spellcasters Chronicles will be playable for the first time on October 17 at TwitchCon San Diego, where attendees can experience live matches on the LAN stage. The event will also feature a deep-dive presentation and community Q&A session, giving fans a closer look at gameplay mechanics and future content plans.

Later this year, Quantic Dream will host a closed beta, scheduled for late 2025. Interested players can sign up now via the official website, though registration does not guarantee a spot, as participation will be invite-only.

Quantic Dream’s decision to develop a competitive multiplayer title represents a major evolution for the studio. Long recognized for narrative innovation and emotional depth, this project signals a move toward social and competitive gameplay, while still promising to preserve the studio’s artistic and technical identity.

While skepticism remains over whether a studio rooted in cinematic storytelling can transition successfully into multiplayer gaming, the concept and early gameplay of Spellcasters Chronicles show ambition and creative vision. With community feedback shaping development, this could become Quantic Dream’s most transformative project yet.

The world’s first impressions begin tomorrow at TwitchCon, and for Quantic Dream, this new chapter could define its future in multiplayer gaming.
