Alongside the pre order launch, S GAME is preparing a new trailer featuring additional story content, characters, combat footage, and what the developer describes only as "something unexpected." The studio has not revealed what the surprise involves, leaving another announcement positioned for the August presentation.
Phantom Blade Zero represents a major transition for S GAME. The studio traces the universe back to Rainblood: Town of Death from 2010, followed by Rainblood 2: City of Flame and Rainblood Chronicles: Mirage before shifting toward mobile development with the Phantom Blade series. The new game has reportedly been planned since 2017 and entered full scale production in 2022, becoming the studio’s first major console project.
Players control Soul, an elite assassin who is framed for murdering the leader of his organization and left critically wounded. A mysterious healer temporarily saves his life, but Soul is given only 66 days to uncover the truth behind the conspiracy before his borrowed life expires. The game combines fast martial arts combat with RPG progression, exploration, challenging boss encounters, and side quests capable of influencing elements of the main story.
Combat has been one of Phantom Blade Zero’s defining features since its original PlayStation Showcase reveal in May 2023. S GAME founder Soulframe Liang has previously cited Ninja Gaiden, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Nioh among the project’s major inspirations, while emphasizing elaborate boss encounters and highly choreographed martial arts combat.
The game was previously scheduled for September 9 before S GAME delayed the release by 50 days to October 29. Liang explained that the additional development period was being used to improve character models, environments, visual presentation, and overall polish. The studio also focused on preserving strong visual quality even without ray tracing rather than depending entirely on advanced rendering effects.
Reaching development completion makes another major delay considerably less likely, although S GAME can continue working on stability improvements and launch updates before release. Phantom Blade Zero will arrive on PC and PlayStation 5 on October 29, placing it among the major action RPG releases closing out 2026.
Phantom Blade Zero reaching completion is especially significant because S GAME is attempting something considerably larger than its previous projects. Moving from mobile titles into a premium action RPG with elaborate animation, demanding combat, large environments, and a global console launch introduces substantial production risk.
The timing also reflects the growing international influence of Chinese premium games. Black Myth: Wukong surpassed an estimated 30 million sales, proving that a Chinese developed action RPG can compete directly with the largest global releases when production quality and gameplay resonate internationally. Phantom Blade Zero now has an opportunity to continue that momentum with a very different Wuxia inspired identity.
The final challenge will be translating spectacular combat demonstrations into a complete RPG that remains compelling outside boss encounters. If S GAME can maintain its animation quality while delivering meaningful exploration, progression, enemy variety, and narrative depth, Phantom Blade Zero could become one of the most important new action franchises of 2026.
Has Phantom Blade Zero shown enough to earn your pre order, or are you waiting for reviews before October 29?
