Painkiller Revival Gets Slightly Delayed Deeper Into October, New Roguelike Mode Gameplay Trailer Revealed
The upcoming Painkiller revival from publisher 3D Realms and developer Anshar Studios has been hit with a slight delay. Originally scheduled to launch on October 9, 2025, the game will now arrive a little more than a week later on October 21, 2025. Alongside the new release date, the developers have revealed a fresh action-packed trailer that showcases an all-new roguelike mode coming with the game.
The Rogue Angel trailer provides a first look at this additional gameplay mode, which takes players into a brand-new realm of Purgatory. In this mode, arenas are procedurally generated, ensuring that no two runs are exactly alike. Players will be able to gather new upgrades to make themselves and their teammates stronger while facing seemingly endless hordes of demons.
The roguelike mode comes on top of the main campaign, which will once again place players in the boots of those condemned to Purgatory as they battle their way toward salvation. For the first time in the franchise’s history, the campaign can be experienced solo or in three-player co-op mode, making this revival even more expansive.
First announced in March 2025, this Painkiller reboot is designed to recapture the frantic, demon-slaying chaos of the original 2004 shooter from People Can Fly, the studio behind Outriders and Bulletstorm. With the addition of roguelike gameplay and co-op support, Anshar Studios aims to bring fast-paced FPS action back to the forefront for both new players and longtime fans.
Now that the release is set for October 21, the wait for Painkiller’s comeback is just a little longer.
