Original Remothered Creator Chris Darril Announces Legal Action After Alleged Credit “Erasure”

The reveal of Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy has quickly become more complicated after Chris Darril, the original creator of the Remothered IP, publicly stated that he was not involved in the new game and has now instructed his legal team to act following what he describes as the omission of his authorship from the project’s reveal materials. Darril shared his statement through a post on LinkedIn, and multiple reports have since echoed the key points of that message.

According to Darril, Remothered is not simply another title in his portfolio, but a project he began developing when he was 17, nearly 20 years ago. In his statement, he said the IP grew from his earliest sketches and ideas, including core elements such as the Red Nun, Rosemary Reed, the settings, and the underlying lore that would eventually define the series. He also said he only recently became aware that a third installment was being produced to complete the original trilogy, and confirmed that he had no involvement in Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy.

Darril’s message was not framed as an attack on the game itself. In fact, he explicitly wished the best to Stormind Games, the franchise, and the team behind the new title. However, he also drew a hard line around what he sees as a serious authorship issue. He said his role as author and IP creator was omitted from the reveal trailer, the credits, and official press materials, which he claims goes against prior agreements. He described this as a deliberate “erasure” of his name and said he has asked his legal team to take the necessary steps.

That makes this more than a routine industry dispute over legacy credit. In creative industries, especially in games where franchises often evolve through studio changes and staff turnover, authorship and creator recognition can carry both legal and reputational weight. Darril appears to be arguing not only that his moral rights were disregarded, but also that removing his name from the new game’s public presentation distorts the history of the series itself. His statement also suggests he believes the omission may shift perceptions around past entries, particularly Remothered: Broken Porcelain, by separating the current production from the franchise’s original authorship. That interpretation comes from Darril’s own wording in the public statement and the reporting that followed it.

For context, Darril previously co founded Stormind Games and served as writer and game director before leaving and later forming Little Sewing Machine, the studio behind Bye Sweet Carole. Public profiles tied to Darril continue to identify him as the creator of both Bye Sweet Carole and the Remothered series, which strengthens the visibility of his authorship claim in the current dispute.

Meanwhile, Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy was officially announced as the third and final entry in the survival horror trilogy and is slated for release later in 2026. Public announcement materials describe it as the conclusion to the trilogy, which is precisely why Darril’s absence from those materials has drawn so much attention from long time fans of the series.

At this stage, the central facts are clear. Darril says he was not involved in the game, says he learned about it only recently, and says he is pursuing legal action over the omission of his authorship from the reveal materials. What remains unclear is how Stormind Games will respond and whether both sides can resolve the issue before the game reaches launch later this year. No public resolution appears to have been announced yet.

For the horror community, this creates an uncomfortable split in the conversation. On one hand, there is real curiosity about the return of Remothered and the promise of a final chapter. On the other, there is now a serious dispute over who is being credited, remembered, and represented as the franchise moves forward. If this is not settled soon, the legal and creative controversy may become just as much a part of the game’s public identity as the game itself.

Do you think Stormind and Chris Darril can reach an agreement before launch, or has this credit dispute already cast a long shadow over Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy?
