One More Level Announces Valor Mortis Playtest for October 6–13
One More Level, the studio best known for its high-speed Ghostrunner franchise, is stepping away from cyberpunk skylines and into the grim streets of a fantastical 19th-century Europe with its next project, Valor Mortis. Announced earlier this year at Gamescom 2025, the game is being described by the developers as a “first-person action Soulslike”, blending fast melee combat with the unforgiving challenge of the Soulslike genre.
Fans eager to try it won’t have to wait much longer. Publisher Lyrical Games has confirmed that a playtest for Valor Mortis will run from October 6 through October 13, 2025. Interested players can register for access via Steam or Discord sign-up.
The playtest will showcase the introductory chapter of Valor Mortis, giving players a first taste of its unique setting and gameplay. Included in the test will be:
A boss fight, offering a glimpse into the punishing encounters the full game will deliver.
The first section of the upgrade tree, letting players experiment with progression and customization.
An early look at the game’s combat and exploration systems.
While Valor Mortis is planned for release on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles, this playtest will be exclusive to PC.
One More Level is recognized for its Ghostrunner series, which featured parkour-inspired platforming and lightning-fast combat in neon-lit dystopian cities. With Valor Mortis, the studio is pivoting dramatically in both tone and setting—trading futuristic skyscrapers for gothic environments inspired by 19th-century Europe and switching from cyberpunk to a more fantasy-horror aesthetic.
The October playtest will serve as the first opportunity for players to see how well One More Level translates its knack for tight, high-intensity combat into the slower, more methodical structure of a Soulslike.
Valor Mortis currently has no official release date, but the upcoming playtest suggests that development is moving steadily toward a full launch.
