NVIDIA Project G-Assist Cuts VRAM Usage by 40%, Expands to All RTX GPUs With 6GB+ VRAM

NVIDIA has rolled out significant updates to both Project G-Assist and the NVIDIA App, bringing broader compatibility, performance boosts, and new quality-of-life features for RTX GPU users.

Project G-Assist: Faster, Lighter, and Available to More Users

The AI-powered utility Project G-Assist has been updated with a more efficient model that reduces VRAM usage by 40%, making it faster and more responsive. With this optimization, G-Assist is now available on all RTX GPUs with 6 GB or more VRAM, significantly expanding its user base beyond the previous 12 GB minimum requirement.

The tool also improves plugin handling, now able to auto-select plugins tailored for specific tasks. Users can additionally browse and install a wide range of plugins directly from Mod.io, further expanding customization and control options.

For RTX notebooks, G-Assist gains new laptop-specific commands to fine-tune Max-Q settings, Battery Boost, and Battery Ops, providing gamers and creators with smarter control over performance and efficiency.

Global DLSS Overrides and Expanded Legacy Features

One of the most requested features is now here: Global DLSS Overrides. Instead of enabling DLSS settings on a per-title basis, users can now toggle DLSS Multi-Frame Generation or DLSS Super Resolution globally across supported games. This means hundreds of DLSS titles can now be configured with just a few clicks.

The update also restores several legacy 3D control panel features directly into the NVIDIA App, including anisotropic filtering, anti-aliasing, ambient occlusion, and texture filtering. These additions allow users to tweak visual quality in classic games more easily, bringing back advanced configuration options that many veteran PC gamers have missed.

Smooth Motion Comes to RTX 40 Series

Another highlight is the official rollout of Smooth Motion support for RTX 40 GPUs within the NVIDIA App. Previously available only through a beta GeForce driver, Smooth Motion is a driver-level frame-generation feature that can be enabled even in games without native DLSS support.

While Smooth Motion offers broad compatibility, it does come with trade-offs in visual fidelity compared to full DLSS integration. Still, the feature provides an important option for players who want smoother gameplay in titles that otherwise lack frame-generation technology.

Release Timeline

  • Beta users: Access to the new NVIDIA App features began on August 19.

  • General users: Updates will roll out a week later, with full access expected before the end of August.

These updates arrive just ahead of Gamescom 2025, where NVIDIA is expected to highlight more GeForce features and showcase the next wave of RTX-enhanced games.

Will you try out Smooth Motion or Global DLSS Overrides first, or are you most excited about G-Assist’s expanded support for 6 GB VRAM GPUs?
