NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 8GB Set to Launch by May 19, Targeting Budget Segment and RX 9060 Competition

NVIDIA is officially gearing up to expand its mid-range GPU lineup with the introduction of the GeForce RTX 5060 8GB, with retail availability expected to begin on May 19, 2025. The announcement, which aligns with prior leaks and growing retail preparations, comes just ahead of Jensen Huang’s keynote at Computex 2025, where the card will be formally showcased to the public.

Designed to rival AMD's upcoming RX 9060 series, the GeForce RTX 5060 enters the competitive budget-performance space with a few meaningful upgrades compared to its predecessor, the RTX 4060—though not without lingering concerns around its 8 GB VRAM capacity. This configuration mirrors that of the widely criticized RTX 5060 Ti, whose limited memory has been blamed for performance bottlenecks in modern gaming titles.

The GPU leverages GDDR7 memory technology, offering a substantial bandwidth uplift over its predecessor, which could help mitigate the 8 GB memory cap in certain scenarios. Yet, the decision to retain an 8 GB configuration remains controversial, particularly for gamers seeking future-proof performance at 1080p or even 1440p.

PNY has already listed a model with the expected MSRP, confirming both the launch timing and the market segment NVIDIA is targeting. The card’s retail launch falls just a day before the Computex keynote, strongly suggesting that NVIDIA will use the stage to provide deeper insight into the architecture, benchmarks, and perhaps the laptop variants that are said to be launching simultaneously.

RTX 5060 vs. RTX 4060 — What’s New?

While NVIDIA’s boost in CUDA core count and memory bandwidth is welcome, the lack of a 12 GB or higher configuration may hamper long-term performance in newer titles increasingly dependent on larger textures and complex AI workloads.

What to Expect at Computex 2025

The company is anticipated to focus on Ray Reconstruction, DLSS 3.5, and updated laptop solutions built on the RTX 5060 mobile GPU—part of NVIDIA's broader strategy to keep up with the momentum of AMD’s RDNA 4-based RX 9060 series. NVIDIA has yet to confirm whether variants like the RTX 5060 12 GB or 5060 Ti 16 GB may follow, but industry insiders expect more SKUs to roll out post-Computex.

Will the RTX 5060’s power and bandwidth upgrades be enough to overcome the 8GB limitation? Or is NVIDIA risking another lukewarm reception like the 5060 Ti? Let us know your thoughts below.
