NO LAW Revealed at TGA 2025 by The Ascent Developers A First Person Open World Shooter RPG
As previously teased on social media via Neon Giant’s official post, Swedish studio Neon Giant has officially unveiled its next major project during The Game Awards 2025. Titled NO LAW, the new title marks a bold genre shift for the team behind 2021’s The Ascent, moving from isometric twin stick shooting to a fully fledged first person open world shooter RPG. At first glance, NO LAW immediately evokes comparisons to Cyberpunk 2077, both in tone and ambition, while retaining Neon Giant’s signature worldbuilding focus.
In NO LAW, players step into the role of Grey Harker, a former soldier who has attempted to leave his violent past behind in favor of a quiet life cultivating plants on the fringes of society. That fragile peace is inevitably broken, forcing Harker back into conflict as he draws upon his black ops training and heavily customized gear to reclaim what was stolen from him and confront the city responsible for his downfall.
The game is set in Port Desire, a sprawling port metropolis carved into towering cliffs overlooking a turbulent sea. This lawless city thrives on imports excess and exploitation, operating without regulation or oversight. Neon Giant describes Port Desire as a living reactive environment filled with morally ambiguous characters and branching narrative paths. From rooftop gardens to neon drenched alleyways, the city is designed to respond dynamically to player choices shaping alliances rivalries and outcomes throughout each playthrough.
Player agency sits at the core of NO LAW’s design philosophy. Decisions are not cosmetic but systemic, influencing the world and its inhabitants. Players must constantly weigh whether to help allies or eliminate threats permanently, whether to move silently through the shadows or unleash chaos in open combat. Even in a city without laws actions carry lasting consequences, reinforcing the game’s emphasis on narrative driven replayability.
A full gameplay trailer premiered during the show and can be viewed via the official reveal trailer. Built on Unreal Engine 5, NO LAW blends visceral first person gunplay with vertical traversal advanced military augmentations and sci fi tools. Combat styles are flexible, allowing players to define their own approach whether focused on precision stealth or raw destructive power.
Claës af Burén Managing Director at Neon Giant highlighted the studio’s evolution with this project stating that NO LAW represents a major step forward. According to af Burén, the team is applying everything learned from The Ascent into a more expansive reactive and personal experience pushing worldbuilding systems and storytelling to new heights.
NO LAW is published by Krafton, which acquired Neon Giant in 2022, and is currently in development for PC PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X. The game is already available to wishlist on the official Steam page where recommended system requirements have been disclosed. Minimum requirements are not yet available.
