Next Kingdom Come Will Preserve Its Historical RPG Identity

Warhorse Studios has reiterated that its next Kingdom Come game is targeting a release between April 2027 and March 2028, while confirming that the commercial success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will not push the series toward broader market trends. The project remains an open world historical role playing game built around the realism, immersion, and demanding systems that established the franchise.

"Warhorse remains committed to its realistic historical RPG approach, refusing to easily alter the series' core elements to chase market trends."

The Warhorse Public Relations Director explained that the main development team is actively working on the new Kingdom Come project. A separate internal group is conducting early research and development for the studio’s Middle earth open world RPG, allowing Warhorse to advance both projects without immediately dividing its primary production resources equally between them.

Warhorse has not officially called the project Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3. The studio previously confirmed that it belongs to the Kingdom Come series and will remain an open world RPG, but its final title, protagonist, historical location, and narrative structure remain unannounced. The Kingdom Come: Salvation trademark has encouraged speculation that it could be a spin off or a smaller standalone entry rather than a direct continuation of Henry’s story.

The planned release window is notably close to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which launched in February 2025. Warhorse previously stated that the next game is planned for Embracer Group’s fiscal year beginning in April 2027 and ending in March 2028, although the schedule depends on development progressing as expected. Our previous coverage of the new Kingdom Come project also confirmed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Lead Designer Prokop Jirsa will direct the next entry.

Warhorse’s refusal to simplify Kingdom Come for a wider audience is strategically important. The franchise became successful because it offered grounded medieval combat, detailed social systems, historical authenticity, and limited guidance rather than following the standardized structure used by many modern open world games.

The next project does not need to become larger than Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. A more focused experience with the same systemic depth could support the relatively short production window while allowing Warhorse to explore another protagonist, region, or historical conflict. The greater operational challenge will be protecting that identity while the studio simultaneously develops a major Middle earth RPG.

Should the next Kingdom Come continue Henry’s story, or introduce a new protagonist within the same historical universe?
