New Mafia: The Old Country Gameplay Showcases Italian Countryside, Stealth, Gunplay, and Family Orders in Stunning Detail
2K and Hangar 13 have released a new nine-minute gameplay clip of Mafia: The Old Country, offering the most extensive look yet at the upcoming prequel to the beloved crime saga. The gameplay, revealed through IGN, introduces players to protagonist Enzo, a rising enforcer in Don Salieri’s crime family, as he embarks on a mission to retrieve a high-value target alive — and prove his loyalty in the process.
The video begins with a cinematic cutscene featuring Don Salieri giving Enzo his assignment. The narrative tone is clear from the outset: a personal mission cloaked in the shadow of family politics and violent traditions. Once Enzo receives his orders, he heads to an armory to gear up for what’s euphemistically described as a "pest problem." The gear selection screen hints at deep customization, letting players prepare for stealth or direct confrontation.
The gameplay transitions smoothly into a drive through the breathtaking Italian countryside, a testament to Hangar 13’s promise that The Old Country will be "the best-looking Mafia game to date." Rolling hills, detailed towns, and golden hour lighting make the setting feel alive and immersive.
Upon arriving at the target’s location, Enzo initiates a stealth approach. The mechanics appear refined, allowing players to sneak through cover, silently neutralize guards, and make strategic decisions on movement and engagement. The mission quickly escalates, however, as gunfire erupts. The gameplay seamlessly shifts to third-person combat, giving us a clear look at the revamped gunplay system, which emphasizes weighty weapon handling and gritty shootouts.
Eventually, Enzo confronts his target inside the villa. The scene ends just as he knocks his target unconscious, keeping the conclusion — and any potential story twists — under wraps. Despite some intentional editing to preserve narrative surprises, this demo offers the clearest indication yet of Mafia: The Old Country’s ambition, cinematic tone, and gameplay depth.
Hangar 13 has been slowly ramping up reveals for the game, and this new footage strongly reinforces their dedication to refining both storytelling and gameplay. With the game now just over a month away from launch, fans of the series and newcomers alike can begin to mark their calendars.
Mafia: The Old Country launches August 8, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game promises a grounded origin tale of loyalty, betrayal, and family legacy set in early 20th-century Italy — and based on what’s been shown, it’s one of the most cinematic entries in the franchise so far.
