Capcom Cancels Monster Hunter Wilds PC Optimization Lecture at CEDEC 2025 Amid Harassment and Threats

Capcom has officially canceled its scheduled lecture on Monster Hunter Wilds PC performance and optimization at the upcoming Computer Entertainment Developers Conference 2025 (CEDEC) in Japan, citing concerns related to harassment and threats directed at its development team.

Originally planned as a technical session titled “Making 'Monster Hunter Wilds' Run Smoothly! Everything You Need To Know About Optimization,” the lecture was set to take place at CEDEC 2025 and intended to provide insight into the optimization challenges and strategies Capcom had pursued to make Monster Hunter Wilds more accessible across a wide range of PC hardware.

However, as reported by Automaton, Capcom made the decision to cancel the talk in light of persistent online harassment and threats received by individual developers and the wider team following the game’s troubled PC launch. While Capcom has not released a direct statement attributing the cancellation to these threats, the growing hostility from a segment of the player base likely prompted the company to prioritize the safety of its staff.

Monster Hunter Wilds launched earlier this year with notable performance issues on PC. Although the development team has issued multiple updates, including the recent Title Update 2 and subsequent hotfixes aimed at improving optimization and resolving bugs, many players continue to report crashes, frame drops, and compatibility issues across various hardware setups. The canceled CEDEC session was meant to open a line of transparent communication between developers and the PC community about these ongoing technical challenges.

Capcom has since issued a formal statement on its website addressing the situation, firmly condemning harassment and threats toward its employees. The company stressed that while it values player feedback, any form of intimidation or abuse toward its staff is unacceptable. It also warned that "in severe cases, Capcom will report incidents to the relevant authorities and may take legal action."

The situation underscores a growing challenge in the games industry where the line between constructive criticism and toxic engagement is increasingly blurred. Developers seeking to engage with communities are facing heightened risks, especially when public-facing efforts to address performance issues are met with hostility.

Despite the current setbacks, Capcom has reiterated its commitment to improving Monster Hunter Wilds through continuous updates and support. However, this cancellation casts a shadow on developer–community interaction and raises broader concerns about the working environment and safety of game creators in the face of public backlash.

What are your thoughts on this situation? Should developers continue to engage with the public when threats are involved? How should the gaming community foster more respectful dialogue?
