EA Is Shutting Down The Sims Mobile in January 2026

Electronic Arts has officially announced that The Sims Mobile will shut down on January 20, 2026, marking the end of a seven-year run for one of its most successful mobile simulation titles. The game will receive its final update on October 20, 2025, followed by a series of limited-time farewell events leading up to the shutdown date.

Launched on March 6, 2018, The Sims Mobile offered players a portable version of the iconic life-simulation experience, featuring buildable homes, social interactions, and event-driven progression. However, by January 21, 2026, the game will become entirely unplayable, as its servers will be permanently shut down. Unlike some previous mobile titles that remain functional offline, EA confirmed that The Sims Mobile will not be accessible even to those who already have it downloaded.

According to EA’s official statement, “The Sims Mobile servers will shut down as of 1:59 p.m. UTC on January 20, 2026. Players will lose access to their saved data, and the game will no longer be available for redownload.” The game is set to be delisted from app stores on October 21, 2025, and in-app purchases have already been disabled.

In a final gesture to the community, EA announced that on January 6, 2026, the entire content library of The Sims Mobile will be unlocked for all players, granting free access to every premium item and feature for two weeks before the servers go offline permanently.

The publisher did not offer an official reason for the shutdown. The farewell message simply thanked the community:
“On behalf of the entire Sims Mobile team, thank you for sharing this amazing journey with us. We hope you enjoy the final update and that these last months allow everyone to finish projects, make memories, and celebrate their Sims.”

However, industry speculation suggests that this closure may be linked to EA’s next mobile venture. According to a MobileGamer.biz report, the company has been developing a new Sims title under the codename “Project Stories.” While EA has not confirmed a release date, it’s possible that this new game could debut in 2026, effectively replacing The Sims Mobile.

Alternatively, some analysts believe the closure may be part of broader cost-cutting measures. EA is reportedly seeking ways to manage approximately $20 billion in debt following its $55 billion corporate buyout, leading to multiple game cancellations and studio restructurings across its mobile division. Some sources have hinted that even Project Stories could face uncertainty, as teams await confirmation of layoffs.

The end of The Sims Mobile represents not just the conclusion of a beloved title, but also a shift in EA’s mobile strategy as it refocuses on fewer, larger-scale projects.
