MSI Quietly Lists Four RTX 5060 V1 Cards Using Larger GB205 Silicon
MSI has quietly expanded its GeForce RTX 50 Series portfolio with 4 new RTX 5060 models carrying the V1 designation. The new lineup includes the GeForce RTX 5060 8G Gaming V1, Gaming OC V1, Ventus 2X V1, and Ventus 2X OC V1, all of which are now listed through the official MSI graphics card catalog.
The V1 models reportedly replace the standard GB206 silicon normally used by the RTX 5060 with a heavily disabled GB205 processor. GB205 is the larger Blackwell die used by the RTX 5070, but MSI’s new cards retain the standard RTX 5060 configuration rather than receiving additional processing resources. MSI does not identify the exact GPU die on its specification pages, so the GB205 configuration is based on the different mounting layout and reporting from VideoCardz.
The rectangular mounting pattern visible around the GPU matches existing GB205 graphics cards, while regular RTX 5060 models using GB206 have a mounting arrangement closer to a square. The existence of this alternative configuration was also indicated in April 2026 when HWiNFO added specific detection support for a GeForce RTX 5060 using GB205 silicon.
Despite using a physically larger processor, all 4 cards retain 3,840 CUDA cores, 8 GB of GDDR7 memory operating at 28 Gbps, a 128 bit memory interface, and PCIe 5.0 connectivity operating through 8 lanes. This means buyers should not expect the GB205 models to perform like an RTX 5070 or provide additional memory capacity.
There are several smaller specification differences between the original cards and the V1 revisions. The RTX 5060 Gaming OC V1 reaches a listed boost clock of 2,587 MHz with 150 W power consumption, compared with 2,625 MHz and 155 W for the original Gaming OC. The standard Gaming V1 maintains its 2,497 MHz boost clock but also carries a 150 W power rating.
The Ventus 2X V1 and Ventus 2X OC V1 retain their previous clock speeds and 145 W power rating. However, MSI lists both new versions at 548 g, while the original models reportedly weighed 511 g, suggesting that the larger GPU package required changes to the circuit board, cooling assembly, or both.
Neither MSI nor NVIDIA has explained why the RTX 5060 is being produced with 2 different Blackwell processors. The change could allow NVIDIA to improve supply flexibility by using GB205 dies that cannot meet the complete RTX 5070 configuration, but this remains an industry interpretation rather than an officially confirmed explanation.
The larger die should not automatically be considered an upgrade. Since the additional processing units and part of the memory interface are disabled, gaming performance should remain close to the standard RTX 5060. Independent testing will still be required to determine whether the GB205 revision produces measurable differences in temperature, power efficiency, noise, or sustained clock behavior.
MSI has not announced retail pricing, regional availability, or whether the V1 cards will gradually replace the original GB206 versions. Both revisions may therefore appear in stores under extremely similar product names, making the complete model number and V1 label important for buyers who want a specific hardware configuration.
The RTX 5060 V1 lineup appears to be a supply chain adjustment rather than a meaningful product refresh. Using a larger GB205 processor gives NVIDIA and its board partners more flexibility, but disabling it to the standard RTX 5060 configuration removes any obvious performance advantage for gamers.
The more significant concern is transparency. Most buyers will reasonably assume that 2 graphics cards carrying almost identical names use the same processor. The V1 label confirms that something has changed, but it does not clearly communicate the move from GB206 to GB205.
Independent benchmarks will ultimately determine whether one version is preferable. Until then, buyers should treat both as RTX 5060 cards with similar expected performance rather than assuming the larger processor delivers an automatic upgrade.
