Max Payne 2 RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod Looks Stunning in New Preview Footage
A new RTX Remix path tracing mod for Max Payne 2 is on the way, and it already looks spectacular based on newly released footage. Created by Darko P, the mod brings modern path tracing lighting technology to Remedy Entertainment’s 2003 classic, transforming its dark, noir-inspired visuals into a breathtaking modern experience.
In the preview video, the new lighting, reflections, and shadows give the game an entirely fresh atmosphere while keeping its signature tone intact. The RTX Remix version captures the cold, cinematic mood of Max Payne’s story with impressive realism, especially in how light interacts with surfaces and characters in real time.
The mod is not yet fully complete, and its developer has already noted a few technical issues, including spherical bathroom mirrors, minor geometry culling problems, and some small visual inconsistencies. However, even with these imperfections, the work is highly impressive and shows how effectively RTX Remix can modernize older titles.
The mod will be available soon on ModDB, and it has already caught the attention of fans eager to revisit Max Payne 2 in a whole new light.
Both Max Payne and Max Payne 2 have received RTX Remix fan projects, serving as a perfect way for longtime fans to revisit the series while waiting for the official remake from Remedy Entertainment. The studio confirmed in August 2024 that the Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake had entered full production during the second quarter of that year, with the goal of completing a playable version from start to finish as soon as possible.
Remedy has yet to release further details about the remake, but given its use of the Northlight Engine, the same technology behind Control and Alan Wake 2, expectations are understandably high. The engine’s proven visual fidelity and dynamic lighting capabilities make it ideal for reimagining one of gaming’s most atmospheric franchises.
Until the official remake arrives, the RTX Remix mod offers fans a striking glimpse of how path tracing and advanced lighting can elevate a 20-year-old classic into something that feels entirely new.
