EA Announces Major Overhaul to Battlefield 6 Challenges and Assignments Based on Player Feedback
As Battlefield 6 approaches its first month since launch, the game’s impressive commercial success has been accompanied by ongoing discussions about its progression system. With more than 7 million copies sold in its first three days and a consistent Steam player count exceeding 200,000, the latest installment in the iconic shooter franchise is thriving, though not without its flaws.
Responding to growing community feedback, EA and Battlefield Studios have confirmed that a major overhaul is being rolled out to address one of the game’s most criticized elements: the grind-heavy nature of Challenges and Assignments. These objectives determine how players advance through the battle pass, unlock weapon attachments, and access new weapons, many of which are tied to specific tasks rather than level progression.
In an official statement shared by the developers on X, the team explained that the update was “guided by gameplay data and player feedback” and aims to create a fairer, more balanced system:
“This update makes significant reductions to challenge requirements, cutting down on time investment while maintaining a focus on skill-driven progression that rewards consistent play. Challenges and Assignments are tuned around defined playtime targets, and these changes bring their requirements in line with those goals to make them more achievable within a reasonable session length.”

This update follows weeks of discussion in the community about excessive grind times and XP farming, particularly in bot-filled PvE Portal matches, where players had been exploiting the system to progress faster. While EA previously limited these XP farms, the new overhaul tackles the core issue by making meaningful progression attainable through regular gameplay instead of repetition.
The patch includes more than 90 changes to Challenges and Assignments, introducing several key improvements:
Weapon assignment requirements across all weapon categories have been simplified.
Damage goals reduced from 10,000 to 3,000, significantly lowering grind time.
Mode-specific assignments now require two wins per tier instead of five.
Multi-kill and kill streak goals reduced from twenty multi-kills to five.
Class-based challenges adjusted to be achievable within shorter sessions.
These revisions are designed to align progression with realistic playtime expectations, helping players unlock rewards more efficiently while keeping progression based on skill and consistency.
EA and Battlefield Studios have stated that this is only the beginning of broader refinements to come, with more balancing and tuning expected as they continue to gather feedback from the player community.
Given the strong launch and high engagement, this update demonstrates the developers’ commitment to improving the overall experience and responding to their audience’s concerns, something long-time Battlefield fans have been hoping to see.
