Marvel Rivals Launches on PS4 Next Week With Season 4: The Heart of the Dragon
Marvel Rivals, the hero-based team shooter from NetEase, is officially making the jump to last-gen consoles. Starting September 12, 2025, the game will launch on PlayStation 4, coinciding with the debut of Season 4: The Heart of the Dragon. The announcement was confirmed in the game’s new cinematic trailer, which lists PS4 among supported platforms at its conclusion.
The move marks a significant expansion for Marvel Rivals, which has so far only been available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S since its release in December 2024. While there is no word yet on an Xbox One version, the PS4 port opens the door to the possibility of further last-gen support down the line.
Marvel Rivals has quickly become one of the most popular multiplayer titles of the year, and its arrival on PS4 could spark another surge in its player base. Despite the ongoing transition to current-gen consoles, the PS4 remains widely used, with millions of active players who have yet to upgrade. This is particularly notable given that Sony only confirmed this past June that PS5 monthly active users had finally surpassed those on PS4. By broadening availability, NetEase is positioning the game to capture a larger share of that still-massive last-gen audience, similar to how other live-service games like Genshin Impact extended their support on PS4 well into the PS5 era.
With Season 4: The Heart of the Dragon, players can expect new content, themed cosmetics, and additional narrative progression to accompany the PS4 launch. For both returning fans and newcomers, this expansion represents one of the biggest updates to Marvel Rivals yet, ensuring that its growing popularity continues into late 2025.
Do you think expanding to PS4 is the right move for Marvel Rivals, or should developers focus fully on current-gen experiences?
