Activision Claims It’s Catching “97% of Cheaters” in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Beta Within 30 Minutes

As the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 multiplayer beta rolls into full public access, Activision has released new data from its anti-cheat team, Team Ricochet, claiming that the company’s latest systems are catching 97% of cheaters within 30 minutes of their first login attempt.

In a detailed post shared on the official Call of Duty Updates X account, Activision stated that cheating was anticipated but that its upgraded defenses have proven far more effective than in previous titles.

“Cheaters were expected,” Team Ricochet wrote. “But our upgraded systems caught them faster than ever, powered by strengthened TPM 2.0 checks and automated systems helping to eliminate a large number of attempts to cheat. Those who did manage to slip through didn’t last long. Most never made it into a match.”

The post continued, adding that fewer than 1% of cheating attempts reached a match, and those who did were removed within minutes. Team Ricochet also emphasized that many of the viral clips showing cheaters in the beta were already dealt with before the footage even reached social media.

“You may have seen clips of cheaters in the Black Ops 7 beta. We had already actioned on most of those accounts before they hit social media. We’re watching closely, acting in real time, and learning from every attempt.”

According to Activision, the new version of Ricochet Anti-Cheat incorporates a broader range of system-level security measures, including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot checks, designed to prevent cheats from running at the hardware level. While these protections have been controversial among some players, Team Ricochet maintains they are necessary for maintaining a fair experience.

“We understand that new security measures like TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot checks can sometimes feel disruptive,” the team wrote. “But these steps help ensure a secure, fair experience for every player.”

The company also highlighted its ongoing campaign against cheat vendors, claiming responsibility for shutting down over 40 cheat developers and resellers since the launch of Black Ops 6. Team Ricochet added that vendors sharing clips of exploits during the beta were already “on their radar” and would be pursued beyond in-game enforcement.

Player Reactions and Ongoing Concerns

While Activision’s numbers sound impressive, community feedback has been mixed. Replies under the announcement post include players claiming they were wrongly shadowbanned, others criticizing the reactive nature of the system for not preventing cheaters before they ruin matches, and some questioning whether the 97% figure reflects all cheating attempts or only those the system detected.

Meanwhile, other players continue to report visible cheaters in matches, suggesting that despite the statistics, the perception of cheating remains a challenge for the franchise.

Still, Activision appears confident in its progress.

“The fight against cheating is an industry-wide challenge, and we’re committed to leading the charge,” the post concluded. “We continue to bring new systems online during beta, fine-tuning our protections, responding faster, and gaining deeper insights. We’re dedicated to transparency, community feedback, and constant evolution in our fight for fair play.”

With the full release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 approaching, the true test for Ricochet’s upgraded system will come months down the line, as the player base expands and cheat developers inevitably attempt new workarounds.
