Kojima Productions Unveils New Trailers for OD and Death Stranding Mosquito, Plus Small Update on PHYSINT
Hideo Kojima used his studio’s 10th anniversary showcase at Tokyo Game Show 2025 to share a wave of updates on current and upcoming projects. Fans were treated to a fresh look at OD, the first trailer for the animation project Death Stranding Mosquito, and a small but meaningful development update on PHYSINT, his next tactical espionage action title.
OD: A Glimpse Into Kojima’s Mysterious Xbox Horror Project
The horror title OD, published by Xbox Game Studios, was thought to be at risk during Microsoft’s recent cancellations, but it appears to be moving forward steadily. A new trailer was revealed, featuring Sophia Lillis, Udo Kier, and Hunter Schafer.
The trailer, while dripping with atmosphere, gave very little away in terms of gameplay. Kojima previously commented that OD will be the kind of game people either “love with a passion or hate right away,” suggesting a highly experimental and divisive project. Fans will have to wait a little longer before gameplay details emerge.
Death Stranding Mosquito: An Animated Expansion of the Universe
The next announcement was the first look at Death Stranding Mosquito, a new animation film set in the Death Stranding universe. This project is being produced by ABC ANIMATION, with a screenplay by Aaron Guzikowski (Contraband, Prisoners, Raised by Wolves) and directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto.
Importantly, this project is separate from the live-action Death Stranding film currently in development with writer-director Michael Sarnoski. The animation approach suggests Kojima Productions is expanding Death Stranding into multiple mediums, continuing the studio’s tradition of blending cinema and games.
PHYSINT: Tactical Espionage Action in Early Stages
Kojima also provided a small but intriguing update on PHYSINT, his upcoming tactical espionage action game being developed in partnership with Sony. A piece of key art was shared, which sparked speculation that the protagonist could resemble Eddie Redmayne, though no confirmation was given.
Kojima officially confirmed three cast members:
Charlee Fraser (Anyone But You, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga)
Ma Dong-seok (Don Lee) (Train to Busan, Eternals, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach)
Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One)
He also explained that the SAG-AFTRA strike delayed the casting process, but more details on the main character will be announced soon. To achieve unprecedented realism, Kojima Productions is collaborating with 3Lateral, the Epic Games-owned studio behind MetaHuman technology, to capture Hamabe’s likeness with extreme precision.
That said, Kojima reminded fans that PHYSINT remains in the conceptual phase and could still be five to six years away from release.
From experimental horror in OD to multimedia storytelling in Death Stranding Mosquito and the long-term vision of PHYSINT, Kojima continues to push boundaries at the intersection of gaming and film. His TGS 2025 showcase reaffirmed his studio’s ambition to keep reinventing how stories and experiences are delivered to players.
Which of Kojima’s upcoming projects excites you most: the experimental horror of OD, the animated expansion of Death Stranding, or the espionage action of PHYSINT?
