James Gunn Says There Is “One Thing In Particular” He’s Excited About for Upcoming DC Games, But It’s All Still “Early Stages”
James Gunn, who has been spearheading DC’s revival alongside Peter Safran, remains deeply focused on the cinematic side of the DC Universe with projects like his recently directed Superman. Yet his role also extends into shaping the future of DC’s gaming portfolio, which he admits is still in the “early stages.”
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Gunn revealed that while there has been “some slight movement” on different DC gaming projects, the larger initiatives are still in planning. “We have a couple of little DC games coming out,” Gunn said. “But we also have talked about – and in early stages of planning – some bigger things. One thing in particular I’m excited about, but it does take time. There’s been some changes in Warner Bros Games, and so we’re dealing with new people.”
The “changes” Gunn referenced are tied to Warner Bros. Games’ ongoing restructuring, which has narrowed its focus to four main pillars: DC, Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, and Game of Thrones. This shift has also resulted in studio closures, including Monolith Productions and Player First Games, along with the cancellation of the Wonder Woman game that had previously been in development.
While Gunn remained vague on specifics, his comments suggest that WB’s DC gaming slate is being carefully reworked, potentially aligning more closely with the broader DC Universe he is building across film and television.
At present, the next confirmed DC-related title is LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, which was revealed during Gamescom ONL 2025 and is scheduled for release in 2026 across PC and consoles. Until then, fans will have to wait to see what the “one thing in particular” Gunn is hinting at will turn out to be.
