HP EliteBoard G2a Packs Ryzen AI PRO 400 and 64 GB DDR5 Into a Keyboard

HP has introduced the EliteBoard G2a, a compact desktop PC integrated entirely into a full sized keyboard, powered by AMD's latest Ryzen AI PRO 400 Series processors. The second generation model combines Zen 5 architecture, Radeon integrated graphics, and support for up to 64 GB of DDR5 memory, targeting business users who need a portable workstation without the traditional desktop chassis.

Building on the original EliteBoard G1a, the new model introduces AMD's Gorgon Point processors with 2 configurations: the Ryzen AI 5 PRO 435 featuring 6 cores and 12 threads, and the Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450 offering 8 cores and 16 threads. Both processors include an NPU delivering up to 50 TOPS for local AI acceleration, supporting Windows 11 Copilot+ features and compatible productivity applications.

According to HP's official specifications, the EliteBoard G2a supports up to 64 GB of DDR5 5600 memory through 2 upgradeable SODIMM slots. Available configurations include 16 GB and 32 GB, while storage options extend to 2 TB through an M.2 NVMe SSD. Although HP offers PCIe 5.0 SSD configurations, the system itself operates at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds.

Despite housing a complete Windows 11 computer, the EliteBoard G2a measures approximately 358 × 119 × 18 mm and weighs just 0.67 kg. Connectivity includes a 40 Gbps USB4 Type C port with DisplayPort 2.1 support, an additional 10 Gbps USB Type C connection, WiFi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0. An optional 32 Wh battery allows users to move between workstations without immediately shutting down, while a 65 W USB Type C adapter provides external power.

HP has also integrated stereo speakers, microphones, a backlit keyboard, and optional fingerprint authentication. The replaceable keyboard assembly, memory, and SSD improve serviceability, making the device suitable for corporate environments where maintenance and deployment flexibility are important.

Pricing is considerably higher than conventional mini PCs. Reported US listings start at $3,028 for the Ryzen AI 5 PRO 435 with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage, while a version with a detachable cable costs $3,053. Higher configurations featuring the Ryzen AI 7 PRO 450 and 32 GB memory reportedly reach $4,191. Pricing varies by market and configuration, with HP's US storefront listing several business oriented variants.

The EliteBoard G2a is an interesting evolution of compact computing, combining a complete desktop system with a device users already need at their workstation. Its upgradeable DDR5 memory and AMD Ryzen AI processors make it a practical option for office productivity, remote work, and lightweight local AI applications.

However, its integrated Radeon graphics and premium pricing limit its appeal as a gaming system. At more than $3,000, conventional mini PCs and gaming laptops offer considerably stronger performance and expansion options.

The real advantage is portability and simplified workplace deployment rather than maximum computing performance. For businesses managing shared workspaces, the keyboard PC concept could be attractive, but its pricing will likely remain the biggest barrier to widespread adoption.

Would you consider replacing your desktop or mini PC with a computer built entirely into a keyboard, or would you prefer a traditional system with better upgrade options?
