Hogwarts Legacy Is Free on Epic Games Store Until December 18 as Holiday Sale Begins

The Epic Games Store has officially kicked off its Epic Games Store Holiday Sale and it starts with a major headline worthy free title. Players can now add Hogwarts Legacy to their Epic Games Store library completely free of charge, with the offer available until December 18 at 5 PM.

Developed by Avalanche Software and originally released in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy is an open world third person action adventure set in the Wizarding World long before the events of the Harry Potter films. Once claimed, the game remains permanently tied to the user’s Epic Games Store account, making this one of the most significant giveaways in the platform’s holiday lineup.

Alongside the free game promotion, Epic Games has partnered with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to expand the Wizarding World crossover across its ecosystem. Players who spend at least two hours exploring Hogwarts Legacy through the Epic Games Store by December 18 at 11 AM Eastern Time will unlock the Chocolate Frog Back Bling in Fortnite. This reward is available both to new players claiming the free version and to existing owners who have already logged the required playtime.

Later this month, the Fortnite Item Shop will also introduce Wizarding World themed outfits and accessories. Each cosmetic set can be customized to represent one of the four Hogwarts houses Gryffindor Slytherin Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, further extending the franchise presence across Epic’s live service titles.

Rocket League is also joining the celebration through its annual Frosty Fest event. The Hogwarts House Rivalry mode allows players to earn points by competing while representing their chosen house. Additional challenge rewards and themed shop items are planned, with Epic confirming that more details will be shared later this month.

Hogwarts Legacy was the best selling game of 2023, outperforming even Call of Duty during that year. Although a Definitive Edition featuring expanded content was reportedly in development with support from Rocksteady, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment ultimately cancelled the project.

Despite that cancellation, the future of the franchise remains secure. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has officially confirmed that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is its top priority. With total sales surpassing 35 million units worldwide, a follow up was inevitable. Given the original game launched in February 2023 and received extended post launch support, industry expectations point toward a potential sequel release window around 2028.

With a free PC release, major cross game promotions, and a confirmed sequel on the horizon, Hogwarts Legacy is once again taking center stage during one of the busiest gaming seasons of the year.

Are you claiming Hogwarts Legacy for free on Epic Games Store, and would you jump back into the Wizarding World ahead of the sequel?
