Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity Expansion Launches October 28 With New Maps, Specializations, and Legendary Gear
ArenaNet has officially announced the next major expansion for its long-running MMORPG, Guild Wars 2. Titled Visions of Eternity, the expansion is set to release on October 28, 2025, continuing the game’s annual expansion cycle. This follows last year’s Janthir Wilds, and once again promises substantial content additions across gameplay, narrative, and player customization.
The expansion is now available for pre-purchase on the official website , with three purchase options:
-
Includes the base expansion, Tropical Resin Kintsugi weapon set, Sea Captain Hat headpiece, Eternal Alchemist title, shared inventory slot, and a Level 80 boost.
-
Adds the Castoran Tentacled Skimmer skin, Fairy’s Call Gathering Tools, an extra character slot, and an Identity Repair Kit.
-
Includes all prior rewards plus 4,000 Gems, Guild Wars 2’s premium in-game currency.
The trailer accompanying the announcement, features Guild Wars 2 Game Director Josh Davis, who emphasizes ArenaNet’s continued dedication to delivering major content expansions. Davis highlighted enhancements to core systems and game modes, and the addition of Elite Specializations that expand class customization across all professions.
A New Story Begins in Castora
The expansion's storyline introduces players to Castora, a legendary island pulsing with ley energy and ancient magic. When the Inquest, a villainous faction of Asuran technologists, begins exploring the region, the Commander and their allies embark on a perilous journey to uncover its secrets and thwart the Inquest’s plans.
At launch, players will gain access to two new maps, with two additional zones planned for 2026 post-launch updates. Alongside the new zones, players can expect:
New Raid Encounters and a new Convergence event.
Expanded Wizard’s Vault rewards.
Two storyline extensions.
New Legendary Gear, including a legendary weapon and legendary Aquabreather at launch. A legendary ring, accessory, and additional weapon are scheduled for future updates.

Combat, Mounts, and Homesteads Expand Further
Every profession in Guild Wars 2 will receive a new Elite Specialization, introducing fresh traits and utility skills. ArenaNet will host a beta week from August 20–27 for players to test these specializations.
The Skimmer mount will be enhanced with three new Mastery lines, while the Homestead housing system will expand with a new beachfront plot in Castora and a Homestead Layout system that allows players to share and duplicate home designs more easily, provided they own the necessary decorations.
Long-Term Support Continues Despite GW3 Rumors
Though NCSoft, ArenaNet’s parent company, may have hinted at Guild Wars 3 being in development, the scale and ambition of Visions of Eternity confirm that Guild Wars 2 remains a priority. With robust post-launch content, beta testing engagement, and support for new systems, the MMORPG’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
