GTA VI Extended Look Premieres on Netflix August 27 Before YouTube

Rockstar Games has officially announced Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, a new presentation scheduled for August 27, 2026. In an unusual change from Rockstar’s traditional marketing strategy, Netflix subscribers will receive the first opportunity to watch the presentation at 3 PM Eastern Time, while the same footage will arrive on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the Grand Theft Auto VI website at 9 PM Eastern Time, giving Netflix a 6 hour exclusive window.

The partnership marks the first time Rockstar has used Netflix to premiere a major Grand Theft Auto presentation. Netflix describes the event as an extended look at the next evolution of the franchise, but neither Netflix nor Rockstar Games has confirmed whether the presentation will focus primarily on gameplay, story, characters, the open world, or a combination of those elements. Its total runtime has also not been officially announced.

"Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right."
— Quote by: Brandon Riegg, Netflix Vice President of Nonfiction Series.

The August presentation will become Rockstar’s first major video showcase for GTA VI since Trailer 2 arrived on May 6, 2025. That trailer provided a much broader introduction to Jason, Lucia, Leonida, Vice City, and several supporting characters after the original reveal established the setting in December 2023. Rockstar subsequently moved GTA VI to its current November 19, 2026 release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

The Netflix premiere also signals that Rockstar and Take Two are entering the final stage of GTA VI marketing with approximately 12 weeks remaining before launch. Preorders are already available, with the Standard Edition priced at $79.99, while Rockstar has still not announced a PC version.

Giving Netflix a 6 hour exclusive window is an unconventional decision for a game whose trailers normally generate enormous traffic directly through Rockstar and YouTube. However, GTA VI is large enough culturally that Rockstar can experiment with distribution without sacrificing attention, while Netflix gains access to one of the biggest entertainment events of 2026.

The more important question is what Rockstar intends to show. With launch approaching, an extended presentation gives the studio an opportunity to finally explain gameplay systems, exploration, activities, combat, vehicles, and the structure of Leonida rather than relying primarily on cinematic trailers. If this becomes the first substantial gameplay demonstration, the August 27 event could become GTA VI’s most important reveal since its original announcement.

Will you watch the GTA VI Extended Look early on Netflix, or wait 6 hours for the YouTube release?
