Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn Arrives on PC on July 23 as Xbox Version Falls Silent
Crate Entertainment has officially confirmed that Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn will launch on July 23, 2026 for PC through Steam, GOG, and the Humble Store. While the announcement finally gives long waiting fans a firm release date for what is being positioned as the largest expansion in the game’s history, it also raises a notable concern for console players. The Xbox One version, which had previously been expected to launch alongside the PC edition, was absent from the latest release confirmation, leaving its status uncertain for now.
Originally announced in August 2023 with a planned 2024 release window, Fangs of Asterkarn has taken significantly longer to reach the finish line. Crate Entertainment is framing that extended timeline as the result of a far more ambitious expansion, one designed to serve as a major closing chapter for Grim Dawn, which first launched in 2016 and has remained one of the most respected action RPGs in the genre. According to the studio, this expansion introduces a completely new region that is roughly double the size of earlier expansions, a new shapeshifting Berserker mastery, and a new Ascendant mode that transforms the full campaign into a high pressure endgame experience aimed at players who have already refined their builds to a serious degree.
To underline just how massive this expansion is, Crate Entertainment shared a direct comparison table showing how Fangs of Asterkarn stacks up against Forgotten Gods, Ashes of Malmouth, and the base game.

Beyond raw scale, the expansion also appears to push deeper into build customization and long term item progression. The new Potion Customization system allows players to tailor potions around their preferred combat style, turning them into either stronger restorative tools or more specialized buffs with unique effects. Affix Transmutation adds another layer for loot focused players by letting them reroll rare and magic item affixes in pursuit of more optimized gear. Epic items can also be Awakened, opening up stronger versions of familiar equipment and creating more value for items that may have previously been left behind in late game progression.
Crate is also extending support for existing modes and endgame systems. The Crucible will receive 30 additional waves for owners of that DLC, while the Shattered Realm from Forgotten Gods is expanding with more regions and boss arenas. The expansion also adds new super bosses, more Nemesis bosses for older factions, and 5 new hero monster archetypes spread throughout Cairn. Looking further ahead, Crate has already confirmed plans for 2 new roguelike dungeons that will arrive later as free content updates for Fangs of Asterkarn, reinforcing the idea that this final expansion still has meaningful post launch value.
The launch will also coincide with the free Grim Dawn 1.3 update, which brings several quality of life and technical upgrades to the full game. That patch includes a major user interface overhaul, expanded stash capacity, more detailed item tooltips, WASD accessibility controls, and HDR lighting support for improved visual presentation. For a title that has built its reputation on depth, replayability, and community goodwill, this combination of a huge paid expansion and a substantial free patch gives Grim Dawn one of its strongest update packages yet.
For PC players, July 23 now looks like a major date for one of the action RPG genre’s most enduring titles. For Xbox players, however, the silence surrounding the console version is difficult to ignore. Unless Crate Entertainment addresses that missing platform soon, the launch of Fangs of Asterkarn may feel less like a full celebration and more like a split rollout that quietly leaves part of the player base behind.
What do you think about Grim Dawn: Fangs of Asterkarn so far, and do you believe Crate should clarify the Xbox release situation before launch?
