Gothic 1 Remake Hits 500,000 Sales In Its First Week

Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic have found a strong audience for Gothic 1 Remake, with the cult RPG revival selling 500,000 copies in its first week.

Gothic 1 Remake has officially passed 500,000 copies sold across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The milestone was confirmed by THQ Nordic and comes during one of the loudest periods of the gaming calendar, with Summer Game Fest 2026 still dominating industry conversation. That timing makes the result more impressive. While many players are focused on major upcoming reveals like God of War Laufey, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, and Resident Evil: Veronica, Gothic 1 Remake managed to turn nostalgia, old school RPG design, and strong community support into real sales momentum.

The game also performed well on Steam. According to SteamDB, Gothic 1 Remake reached an all time peak of 77,731 concurrent players, showing that the sales milestone was matched by strong player activity.

"Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic are thrilled by this initial success and extend a heartfelt thank you to all players who have entered the Colony so far."

The publisher also thanked the longtime Gothic community, noting that the franchise has been supported by dedicated fans for 25 years. Alkimia Interactive says it will continue improving the remake in the weeks and months ahead.

The original Gothic launched in 2001 and became one of the most influential European RPGs of its era. It was known for its harsh world, faction driven progression, limited hand holding, and strong sense of immersion. That identity is still central to the Gothic 1 Remake does not fully smooth out the rough edges that made the original so memorable. Instead, it tries to modernize the experience while keeping the danger, friction, and hostile atmosphere that fans expect.

That approach may not work for everyone, but the first week numbers show there is still a strong market for RPGs that feel demanding, strange, and unapologetically old school.

Gothic 1 Remake selling 500,000 copies in 1 week is a major win for Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic. The most interesting part is not only the number. It is the timing. The game launched directly into a crowded news cycle filled with massive AAA announcements, yet still managed to build a clear audience.

That says a lot about the strength of the Gothic name, but also about the current RPG market. Players are still hungry for worlds that feel reactive, dangerous, and less polished in a predictable way. Gothic 1 Remake may not be the smoothest RPG of 2026, but it has personality, and that still matters.

The next step is support. If Alkimia can keep improving performance, combat feel, bugs, and quality of life without losing the identity of the original, Gothic 1 Remake could become one of the most successful cult RPG revivals of the year.

Did Gothic 1 Remake earn your attention because of nostalgia, or because modern RPGs have become too safe?
