Ghost of Yotei Will Match Ghost of Tsushima’s Length, Promising Deeper Exploration and Player Freedom

Sucker Punch Productions has confirmed in a recent interview with VideoGamesChronicle that Ghost of Yotei, the highly anticipated follow-up to Ghost of Tsushima, will offer a game length similar to its predecessor. According to HowLongToBeat, Ghost of Tsushima required roughly 25 hours to complete its main story, around 46 hours when including side content, and up to 62 hours for a full completionist playthrough. Players can expect a similarly immersive experience in Ghost of Yotei, though with enhancements that reflect the studio's evolving design philosophy.

Co-director Jason Connell shared that one of the key goals with Ghost of Yotei is to expand player freedom and interaction within the world. “As the creators of the last game, we played a ton of it,” Connell explained. “As we went to create a new game, and we decided it was going to be set in Hokkaido, it only seemed fitting to also increase the way that we think about the freedom of the game. What does it feel like to explore? What are your options? How do we feed you your next objective? To us, it really felt like an evolutionary step for us to be able to think about what freedom means to the player and to allow some new ways in which you might uncover something that’s interesting for you.”

Fellow director Nate Fox added his own thoughts on the open-world immersion that defines the Ghost series. “The thing that Jason and I love the most is that moment when you’re on your horse and you’re looking at this big, beautiful landscape. And maybe the wind is telling you, if you would like to continue the story, go that way. But you see something out of the corner of your eye that catches your curiosity. And you say, you know what? I’m going to go check that out. That moment where the game’s not telling you really about where to go or what to do. It’s you. That’s the most beautiful thing about open-world games.”

While the game promises a robust narrative and more freedom, Sucker Punch has not yet revealed whether Ghost of Yotei will include a multiplayer mode like Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. Since Legends launched several months after Tsushima’s base release, a similar staggered approach could be expected, though no details have been confirmed as of yet.

Ghost of Yotei is scheduled to release on October 2 exclusively for PlayStation 5. A PC version has not been announced, but following Sony’s pattern of delayed PC releases for first-party titles, a future launch on that platform seems likely, potentially within the next year or two.
