Ghost of Yotei Legends Is Out Now on PS5, and Sony’s PC Port Shift Makes the Moment More Frustrating

Sucker Punch Productions has officially released Ghost of Yotei Legends as free DLC for all Ghost of Yotei owners on PS5, bringing back the multiplayer experience that many players first came to love through Ghost of Tsushima Legends. Its return is an exciting update for PlayStation players, especially for those who spent countless hours in co op missions and challenging encounters in the previous game. At the same time, the timing of this release gives the moment a more complicated edge, as it arrives just days after fresh discussion surrounding Sony’s evolving PC strategy.

The return of Legends should have been an easy win on its own. It revives one of the most appreciated surprise additions from the Ghost franchise, a multiplayer mode that proved it had staying power well beyond launch. While the single player campaign remains the main attraction for many fans of Sucker Punch’s Ghost titles, Legends built a reputation of its own thanks to its cooperative structure, replayability, and the different combat dynamics it introduced. That made it more than just a side mode. For many players, it became a major reason to keep coming back.

That is why this new release lands with mixed feelings. When Ghost of Tsushima arrived on PC, it showed strong momentum and set new concurrent player milestones on Steam among PlayStation’s current lineup of PS5 to PC releases. It also became the best selling game in the United States during its debut month, proving that there was real demand for the franchise beyond the PlayStation ecosystem. The success of Legends on both console and PC further reinforced the idea that this series could thrive across platforms, especially when multiplayer is part of the equation.

Now, however, the situation looks different. Following recent reports that Ghost of Yotei and Saros will be the first PlayStation titles no longer set to receive PC ports, the long term future of Ghost of Yotei Legends outside PS5 looks much less certain. Even though Sony is reportedly still planning to bring multiplayer focused first party games to PC, the possibility of Ghost of Yotei Legends launching there as a separate title now seems far less likely. That is what makes this PS5 release feel more bittersweet than it otherwise would have.

For PlayStation players, though, there is still plenty to be excited about. Once Patch 1.5 has been downloaded and installed, Ghost of Yotei owners on PS5 and PS5 Pro can jump directly into Legends. At launch, the mode includes 4 different classes, a variety of mission types, and multiple difficulty levels for players to work through. That should give the mode a solid starting foundation and enough variety to keep teams engaged as they settle into the new experience.

Sucker Punch is also already looking ahead with post launch support. A larger Raid event is scheduled to arrive next month, giving players a bigger challenge and expanding the mode beyond its day one offering. In that update, players will face the final 2 members of the Yotei Six, or more specifically, the darker and more demonic versions that appear within Legends. That setup suggests Sucker Punch is once again leaning into the supernatural tone that helped make the original Legends stand out, and it could end up being one of the strongest draws for returning co op fans.

In many ways, Ghost of Yotei Legends is exactly the kind of multiplayer expansion that should strengthen a franchise’s long term reach. It builds on a beloved feature, adds more reasons for players to stay invested, and helps keep the game active beyond its main campaign. That is also why Sony’s apparent pivot away from broader PC support feels more frustrating here than it might with a purely single player release. A mode like Legends has clear potential to grow through a wider player base, and its return only highlights what may now be missing from that strategy.

For PS5 players, this is still a strong and welcome addition. For everyone else, it feels like another reminder that some of PlayStation’s biggest opportunities for expansion may now be staying locked much closer to home.

What do you think about Ghost of Yotei Legends returning on PS5? Does Sony’s PC strategy make this release feel like a missed opportunity too?
