Genshin Impact to Gradually End PlayStation 4 Support by 2026 Due to Hardware Limitations

Developer HoYoverse has officially announced that Genshin Impact will begin phasing out support for PlayStation 4, citing hardware limitations and application size constraints as the main reasons. The transition will begin September 10, 2025, when the game will be removed from the PlayStation Store. However, existing players on the platform will be allowed to continue their journey until April 8, 2026, the official end of service date.

As part of the gradual phase-out, in-game purchases will be disabled from February 25, 2026. Players will no longer be able to purchase items after this date, but any previously acquired purchases that have not yet been claimed will remain accessible until the final day of support.

The discontinuation of PS4 support is tied directly to technical constraints on the aging platform, which is no longer able to meet the demands of the game's evolving scope, features, and visual fidelity. HoYoverse emphasized that this decision is necessary to maintain performance standards as the game continues to expand.

Coinciding with the PS4 announcement, HoYoverse also confirmed that the minimum system requirements for both PC and mobile versions of Genshin Impact have been updated, particularly in preparation for the upcoming Song of the Welkin Moon update. Although devices with lower specs will still be able to run the game after the update, performance and stability may be affected.

While the departure from PS4 may disappoint longtime console fans, it reflects the increasing demand for higher-fidelity experiences in the Genshin Impact universe. The game continues to evolve rapidly, with newer platforms like PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and high-end mobile devices now offering more consistent performance and longer-term viability.

At present, Genshin Impact remains fully available and supported across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and mobile platforms, as HoYoverse continues its long-term development roadmap.
