Gears of War: Reloaded Surpasses 1 Million Players Just Three Days After Launch

Gears of War: Reloaded launched on August 26, 2025, across all current-gen consoles, including PlayStation platforms for the very first time, and it has already achieved a major milestone. Developer The Coalition and Microsoft confirmed that the remaster surpassed 1 million players in just three days.

“Ending the console war, one grub at a time. Thank you for 1 million players,” The Coalition wrote in its celebratory post on X.

While the milestone highlights the game’s strong reception, it’s worth noting that the figure includes Xbox Game Pass players, not strictly direct sales. Still, it represents a historic step for the series, as this is the first time PlayStation players have been able to experience Gears of War.

A Historic Industry Shift

August 26, 2025, marked a turning point for the gaming industry, as previously console-exclusive franchises crossed over to rival platforms. PlayStation fans finally joined the fight against the Locust Horde in Gears of War, while Xbox players experienced Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2 for the first time.

Interestingly, the best console to play Gears of War: Reloaded may actually be the PlayStation 5 Pro. Thanks to its improved hardware, it reportedly delivers the strongest balance of performance and visual fidelity compared to the Xbox Series X and the base PS5.

This milestone is only the beginning of a busy future for the franchise. Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel exploring the chaos of Emergence Day, is currently in development. Beyond gaming, the series is also headed to Hollywood, with a live-action Gears of War film adaptation in the works, though it isn’t expected until 2027.

For now, though, Reloaded’s strong launch shows that Gears of War has successfully crossed the platform divide and is reaching a wider audience than ever before.

Are you playing Gears of War: Reloaded on Xbox or PlayStation? Which platform feels like the true home for the series now?
