Gearbox Debuts the First New Vault Hunter Coming to Borderlands 4 in Paid DLC
During Tokyo Game Show 2025, Gearbox and 2K officially revealed the first new Vault Hunter coming to Borderlands 4 through the game’s first paid story DLC. The new character, named C4SH, will be introduced in Q1 2026 alongside the expansion Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned.
C4SH is described as a former casino bot turned Vault Hunter, whose combat style is built around “unpredictable chance-based abilities.” Gearbox hasn’t provided a detailed breakdown of his skill trees or gameplay mechanics yet, but teased that his kit will bring a fresh, chaotic twist to Borderlands’ trademark looter-shooter combat.
Players can expect more information on C4SH’s abilities and backstory closer to the DLC’s release window.
The DLC will be bundled with the Super Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 4 and the Vault Hunter Pack. Players who purchased either edition won’t need to pay extra. Those who own only the base game will need to purchase Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned separately.
While the reveal of C4SH adds excitement for fans eager for post-launch content, it comes at a time when Borderlands 4 is still under heavy criticism for its technical problems. Players continue to report frame rate drops, crashes, and missing features that many argue should have been included at launch.
Gearbox is actively rolling out patches and updates to address these issues, but the road to a stable, polished version of the game appears ongoing.
Adding to the irony, the C4SH teaser trailer briefly references the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4, which was indefinitely delayed last week after originally being scheduled for an October 3 release.
With new content rolling out just weeks after the base game’s launch, Gearbox is clearly pushing to expand Borderlands 4’s universe quickly. Still, for many fans, performance stability remains a higher priority than new Vault Hunters or story packs.
Are you excited to try out C4SH’s luck-based abilities, or do you think Gearbox should focus on fixing Borderlands 4’s technical issues before pushing new content?
