Bright Memory Infinite Creator FYQD Teases a New Third Person Action Shooter Set in the Republic of China Era
FYQD Studio, the one person development effort led by Zeng Xiancheng and best known for Bright Memory Infinite, has announced a new action shooter project that is currently untitled. In a new post shared via FYQD Studio on X, the developer describes the game as a third person action shooter set during the Republic of China era, framed as a period defined by turmoil and collapsing order where rival gangs clash in the shadows while violence and conspiracy spread through the streets.
From a creative positioning standpoint, this is an uncommon historical backdrop for a modern action shooter. Many games that draw from Chinese history typically lean on earlier and more frequently depicted eras, so anchoring a new project in the Republic of China period gives FYQD a visually distinctive sandbox for fashion, architecture, urban atmosphere, and noir style tension. It is also a setting that can invite extra attention depending on how the story is presented, which is why the developer has already moved to clarify intent.
When the announcement discussion spread on social platforms, at least one user warned FYQD against touching real history. FYQD responded by stating the story and all aspects of the work are fictional and not connected to actual historical events, emphasizing that the Republic era is being used as a background setting and that the focus is on third person action shooting. That clarification reads like a risk management decision as much as a narrative one, designed to keep the project centered on gameplay and cinematic momentum rather than controversy.

Alongside the announcement, FYQD also shared several striking screenshots that reinforce what longtime Bright Memory Infinite players already know: visual presentation is one of the studio’s strongest differentiators. The images show a rain soaked stone structure marked with red Chinese characters and a produced by FYQD Studio stamp, a moody vintage interior featuring chairs and a table scattered with playing cards and chips while rain streaks the window outside, and a close up of a character wearing a red scarf with a pocket watch, presented with the same polished framing style that helped Bright Memory Infinite stand out in its weight class.
While no release timing was provided, the scope implied by the setting, the shift to a more grounded urban conflict tone, and the presentation quality suggest this could be a longer production runway than FYQD’s previous work. For players, the smart play is to treat this as an early signal rather than a near term launch, but it is a promising concept that could deliver a fresh flavor of action shooter if it maintains FYQD’s signature pacing and spectacle.
FYQD also noted that Bright Memory Infinite is currently discounted at 50% on Steam and 30% on PlayStation and Xbox. The game continues to hold strong sentiment among players, with over 90% of global Steam user reviews marked positive, and SteamDB based estimates placing its Steam sales between 1.18 million and 2.32 million units.
Would you rather see FYQD lean into cinematic third person gunplay with tight set piece missions, or expand into a more open hub structure that lets the Republic era setting breathe with exploration and side encounters?
