Forza Horizon 6 Generates $579.2 Million Before PS5 Launch, Leads 2026 First Party Sales

Forza Horizon 6 has become the highest grossing Xbox and PlayStation first party release of 2026, generating an estimated $579.2 million in revenue from 8.8 million copies sold across Xbox and PC. The figures come from a new Alinea Analytics report, highlighting the commercial success of Playground Games' open world racing title before its upcoming PlayStation 5 debut.

According to analyst Rhys Elliott, Forza Horizon 6 has generated 56.7% of its revenue through the Xbox ecosystem, including console and PC purchases. Xbox Game Pass has also played a significant role, with more than 10 million subscribers accessing the game and approximately 1.3 million players purchasing the Premium Upgrade, contributing an estimated $82 million in additional revenue.

The results place Forza Horizon 6 significantly ahead of other major first party releases from Microsoft and Sony, including Marvel's Wolverine, MLB The Show 26, and Halo: Campaign Evolved.

Figures represent Alinea Analytics estimates as of October 2026, not officially reported publisher revenue.

Despite its impressive performance, Forza Horizon 6 remains behind 2 major racing benchmarks. Alinea estimates that Gran Turismo 7 has generated approximately $834 million on PlayStation, while Forza Horizon 5 has surpassed $1 billion across Xbox, Steam, and PlayStation. However, the upcoming PS5 release could significantly expand its audience, particularly after Forza Horizon 5 surpassed 5 million copies sold on Sony's console.

Microsoft has officially confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will launch on PlayStation 5 on January 26, 2027, with Premium Edition owners receiving early access beginning January 21. The release coincides with the game's first Premium Expansion and a free content update, while cross platform multiplayer, shared progression, and community created content will remain accessible across supported platforms.

Alinea expects the PlayStation launch and future discounts to help Forza Horizon 6 eventually surpass Gran Turismo 7's estimated revenue. However, that milestone is not guaranteed, and the figures reflect independent market estimates rather than confirmed financial disclosures.

Forza Horizon 6 demonstrates the commercial potential of Microsoft's expanding multiplatform strategy. Generating nearly $580 million before reaching PlayStation suggests that Xbox franchises can build substantial revenue through software sales, premium upgrades, and subscription engagement without relying exclusively on console ownership.

The upcoming PS5 launch could provide another significant revenue opportunity, particularly given Forza Horizon 5's performance on the platform. However, surpassing Gran Turismo 7 will depend on sustained demand rather than simply releasing on another console.

The more interesting takeaway is how Xbox is balancing Game Pass accessibility with traditional purchases. With millions accessing Forza Horizon 6 through subscriptions while others purchase premium content, Playground Games has demonstrated how multiple distribution models can contribute to a successful release.

Do you think Forza Horizon 6 can surpass Gran Turismo 7 in total revenue after its PS5 launch, or will Sony's racing franchise maintain its lead?
