Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 Teases Big Roles for Cid and Vincent as Hamaguchi Also Hints at Knights of the Round and Supernova

Square Enix is still keeping Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3 close to the chest, but director Naoki Hamaguchi has now given fans a few meaningful hints about what to expect from the trilogy’s finale. In a recent interview with ntower, Hamaguchi said both Cid and Vincent have been designed with “incredibly appealing combat capabilities,” making it clear that the final entry is set to give the last two major party members a much bigger spotlight.

Hamaguchi’s comments matter because they move beyond vague fan expectation and into direct developer teasing. While he stopped short of revealing detailed mechanics, he specifically said he cannot wait for players to try Vincent and Cid in the final game. That strongly suggests Part 3 will not just complete the party on paper, but will likely turn both characters into standout additions to the combat system. Based on how carefully each remake entry has differentiated its playable cast so far, that is a promising sign for the game’s battle design.

Vincent is especially intriguing in the remake context. In the original game, he stood out for his firearm based combat, strong magic potential, and his memorable transformation driven Limit Breaks. Cid, by contrast, has a more immediately adaptable battle identity thanks to his dragoon style aggression and spear based combat profile. Hamaguchi did not confirm specific mechanics for either character, so any assumptions about how their movesets will function remain speculative. Still, his wording makes it clear that both were built to feel compelling rather than simply complete the roster. This last point is an inference based on his interview remarks.

The interview also touched on two of the most iconic elements in the original Final Fantasy VII: Knights of the Round and Sephiroth’s Supernova. Hamaguchi said both are among the game’s most symbolic moments, but stressed that recreating them for the trilogy requires careful consideration in the context of a modern combat system and player expectations. He did not outright confirm their final implementation, but the way he discussed them strongly indicates they are active design topics for the final game.

That distinction is important. Hamaguchi did not say, in plain terms, that Knights of the Round and Supernova are fully confirmed as final in game features in a one to one original form. What he did say is that they are iconic elements the team is thinking about very carefully. So while their inclusion in some form looks highly likely, the exact way they will appear may be reworked to better fit the remake trilogy’s more cinematic and interactive combat structure. That is an inference drawn from the interview, not a direct announcement.

Outside Part 3, Hamaguchi also used the same interview to talk about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. He described NVIDIA DLSS as an essential technology for balancing large environments with stable performance in handheld mode, while also acknowledging that very fine detail, such as Cloud’s hair, can become problematic when reconstruction techniques are involved. That comment does not directly affect Part 3, but it does offer a useful glimpse into how the team is thinking about rendering tradeoffs across current hardware.

Taken together, the interview gives fans a stronger reason to be excited about the trilogy’s finale. Cid and Vincent are clearly being treated as meaningful gameplay additions, not late game obligations, and Square Enix is openly wrestling with how to modernize some of the most legendary set pieces in the original game. For a project carrying this much legacy weight, that is probably exactly what players wanted to hear.

Do you think Cid or Vincent has the better chance to become Part 3’s breakout party member?
