Final Fantasy IX Remake Development May Be Going Through Some Difficulties, New Insider Information Suggests
The long-rumored Final Fantasy IX remake, first revealed in the massive NVIDIA GeForce Now leak, remains the only leaked Square Enix project that has yet to be officially announced. And according to new insider claims, fans may have to wait much longer before hearing anything official.
On Reddit, user TomAto314 - who has previously shared accurate insider information, including the existence of Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined and the Timeless Tale record that was unveiled during the Final Fantasy IX 25th Anniversary - has revealed new details regarding the project.
In their post on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, the user claimed the remake has been listed in their company’s internal database for three years, yet no build has ever been provided for testing. Updates related to the project allegedly only mention delays until 2024, raising concerns that development may not be progressing smoothly.
While this information should be taken with a grain of salt, the track record of the leaker lends some credibility. These claims also align with earlier reports from other insiders, such as Nate Drake, who previously suggested that the project may be facing development troubles or even the possibility of cancellation.
The remake has not been confirmed by Square Enix, and with no builds apparently being distributed for testing, the game’s future remains in question. Whether the project is simply delayed or in deeper trouble is still unknown, but fans likely shouldn’t expect an announcement anytime soon.
While waiting for any potential news, PC players can revisit Final Fantasy IX with significantly enhanced visuals thanks to the Moguri Mod. The Moguri Mod 9.0 released last year introduces:
Sharper, improved field backgrounds
Reworked battle backgrounds
Numerous visual refinements for a vastly upgraded experience
This ensures fans can still enjoy the charm of the original game in a modernized form while Square Enix remains silent on the rumored remake.
Do you think Square Enix will officially announce the Final Fantasy IX remake soon, or could this project quietly vanish like other canceled titles?
